Jess over at Affiliate Program Advice has teamed up with e-consultancy to conduct the first ever UK Affiliate Census.

    • Is the average affiliate a male in his 30s from Manchester with six computers in his front room?
    • Is it true that affiliates commonly earn over £200k per year?
    • Are gaming and fashion the most popular sectors for publishers to focus on?

They are hoping to answer these and many other questions about affiliates, so I'd urge you to spend just five minutes of your time completing the survey.

In return you will help put the spotlight on industry and you will be entitled to a free copy of the report when its published early next year. All information submitted is confidential and anonymous.

    Hi Ya
    Exciting stuff...
Im happy to answer any queries you have here on the forum or via PM or email below.

Just a quickie... some affiliates may get more then one network email alert about this. We are not trying to spam you, we just wanted to reach as many UK affiliates as possible.

I can't wait for the results, so hurry up

Look forward to this one too.

Just a quicky - are we to assume that networks that don't feature in the "supporters list" have chosen to opt out of this survey? I'm just little suprised at the absence of one or two.

    Cheers
    Paul.

I would have liked to have seen a league table, where you can rank networks for those which you work with for example if you selected 8 networks, you can rank them in order 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc with 8 points going to 1st, 7 to 2nd & so forth. Then points accumulated for all participants at the end.

I like the idea in principal, Paul, but wouldn't that discriminate against niche networks like Smart Quotes and OMG who don't have the volume of active affiliates compared to TD, AWIN, etc?

That could be got around with a formula, will get my thinking hat (currently white though contemplating otherwise when applied to certain parties). Where you can use a preferred over principle in instances where users worked with both networks.

Same here Paul but I seem to remember a similar network vote on these forums which was inevitably skewed by networks voting for themselves

Perhaps a vote like that should not be anonymous or by invite only.

Do not ask how many computers Nic has. Serious gazillions.

Just a quicky - are we to assume that networks that don't feature in the "supporters list" have chosen to opt out of this survey? I'm just little suprised at the absence of one or two.
All were invited and all received phone calls and we need to respect their wishes for not wanting to be involved.

QGJ: This is a first time public survey, there were loads of questions we wanted to put in there and up until yesterday we were still jigging it about.
I would have liked to have seen a league table, where you can rank networks for those which you work with for example if you selected 8 networks, you can rank them in order 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc with 8 points going to 1st, 7 to 2nd & so forth. Then points accumulated for all participants at the end.
We did have this, but we have to consider the wishes of the network as we wanted them to participate with the emailing of their survey to their own database. Two networks in particular asked us to adjust this question, which we did. Again, Paul from BB makes a good point which we discussed as well and took into consideration
but I seem to remember a similar network vote on these forums which was inevitably skewed by networks voting for themselves
, whilst this is really funny in one sense, it was a bit of a question stopper for us.

Interesting survey, but I wasn't sure if making money from advertising
(e.g. adsense) counted as affiliate marketing?

Via adwords you have the option to list your ads on affiliate sites, thats the connection.
