Hands up if you love banners ... Whoopee Doo !

After years of requesting & admiting failure in hoping networks would produce decent enough API product feeds to produce sites comparable with Kelkoo, Pricerunner & Shopping.com. Though rumour has it one network will maybe be ready early next year, & I'm frothing at the mouth hoping it lives up to expectations.

Shouldn't networks and/or merchants be starting to offer Streaming Video Advertisments, maybe something like what's seen here?

Just one question, there is not a single big enough network (in terms of the amount of products they have in their database of datafeeds) to run a price comparison site anywhere near the scale of any of those you mention. So anything this network come up with good enough to rival anything like that would have to get more data from some third party company like kelkoo, pricerunner etc and that would just make it a glorified proxy service surely?

Yes agree, but a couple of networks are getting there in regard to volume of products available to at least complete search queries for most visitor search requests, i guess the existing price comparison sites had to start from somewhere i.e. a lot smaller base than what they currently have now.

Once the networks product is developed, it will potentially have a catalytic effect & consequently attract more merchants onto the network .. thus increasing the products available & maybe even surpassing the others ... knowing (the merchants that is) they are at first at least, paying on a cpa basis only.

I seen one or two links recently from a price comaprison site redirecting via commission junction links, not sure why.

However back to main point ... Streaming Video Advertisments

Will not hijack your thread any more, maybe you can start a new thread on the subject, i would love to bite into that one (ps, cj also do third party traffic verification which i think either td do for kelkoo too (or it is backfill data)). CJ group also own a well known pricecomprison site

Streaming video banners, errrrrrr why not.....but

It doesnt matter whether its a flash file or a video (though i am sure networks will want the files on the merchants servers) so in that respect it is not really any different from a flash video banner is it really?

The cost to make them doesnt really warrant having them though unless its specific about a certain product, i expect the when you work out the cost of doing them the "benefit" will be more on the smaller affiliates side as good content for pages than it will be of benefit to the merchant, but time will tell i guess.

Maybe this is one of the things we will all have to do to step ahead and stand out in the future, everything is becoming more and more interactive nowadays.

For now i think it will just be a waist of time, its nice to have content on pages but when it comes to the killer sale part im sure the good old fashioned click here text link works better than any video banner.

Sure NP. Please start one .. I think its a worthwhile discussion as you say & just disappointing networks haven't evolved on this side as much as we would have liked.

I would have thought that early next year this will start to pick up with Google leading the way, and networks following suit at some point:

    Ohh Good Thread!

They should be able to offer it and in multiple formats! Most merchants are creating these campaigns for their general media campaigs so would not be incurring additional development costs. Networks may be worryung about the streaming/serving charges, however they just need to be firm with merchants and charge extra (after all merchants have to pay 3rd party costs for steaming through their general media campaigns). The challenge will be how affiliates benefit from showing such an ad... One option is to give affiliates a fixed cost for every full stream, then a % commission on the back of any sales.

Before i left the UK, i was talking to a number of entertainment companies who were open to the idea of paying a fixed cost per stream.

My experience shows that a streaming video performs at least 4 times as better as a standard flash ad! Combine this with offline campaign running at the same time and the metrics are great and of real value to increasing sales!

Interesting to see if networks are pursuing this,
