Could any networks please write here if you will honour commissions and registrations of clients that suddenly stop trading, close their account or do not pay their bill?

I would rather work with networks who do this and give them priority listing. Saves me being burnt again!

I’m sure other affiliates will find this information useful. I have tried contacting some networks about this but have had no reply.

    Thanks.

This is a fantastic subject for a thread Jock

I have been burnt a number of times my merchants not paying up and certain networks not being as proactive as they could have been in trying to get affiliates' commissions.

As far as I am aware, AF offer such a guarantee. That is why if I merchant is on AF and another network, I usually chose AF.

    Which other networks?

Agree - its a great subject for a thread
Sadly I get the distinct impression that AF are going to be the only ones
If so - thats REALLY bad

    Webgains do as well

    From their website:

A real concern for many affiliates is promoting a merchant who is then unable/unwilling to pay for genuine commissions. In reality this is a rare occurrence as the majority of merchants are delighted with the business that affiliates bring them and therefore happy to pay well-deserved commissions for increased revenue. However, where a merchant does fail to pay, Webgains guarantees payment for all bona fide commissions.
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.

If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.

    I don't think Tradedoubler do.

We recently experienced this with the demise of Electric Shop -- we have over £80 of commissions outstanding with no apparent attempt by Tradedoubler to chase them up, keep affiliates informed or, god forbid, cover the losses for us affiliates from their huge profits!

Isn't it because with AF they are pre-pay with the merchants? , thats what we do i.e load it up with cash and then affiliates get paid from that pot.

Where as with others we get a invoice at the end of the billing period which we have to pay at the end.

TD and CJ doesnt pay if they dont get paid by the merchant and thats for sure...i have a lot waiting from a few defunct merchants

the above doesnt apply if the merchant is on prepayment mode.

    same applies for linkshare

Shareasale do too. (Basically all merchants are on prepay and links are de-activated if balance is below zero).

I don't think any Network has it in the Affiliate terms of business so no one can say they guarantee it without giving it in writing in the terms of business. If any do then that’s great, post the names and the link to the terms as I think that’s really good and brave of them.

To date Paid On Results has paid for every single one of the Merchants who have went bust or left without paying invoices, I will dig out the list and post it here of the few this has happened with.

To be honest we are going down the route of, if you have got no money or make the threat that you won't pay for such and such a reason and we will just remove you from the Network.

Some times this means giving short notice if someone (quickly and rapidly) gets in to debt and has not managed to stay in funds, most times it's short term and they are back in funds and all is well but when this happens Affiliates should remove all links and expect no payments for any sales from the moment they are notified, the ones before that time if valid you should get paid and that’s what we been doing out of our own pocket, however we don’t post hey we done this as that’s just the right thing to do but clearly we should have been so more people know that’s what we have been doing.

We are starting a whole new system of Payment in 2007, we want to speed up payment times and we want to reduce the risk of dealing with anyone paying in arrears so starting early 2007 we will be telling you who pays up front and who is not, and you can decided to take the risk to deal with people who pay in arrears as I prefer you to only promote people who pay up front makes life easier for all and thankfully 90% of our Merchants are on the ball and paying on time

Where blue barracuda have had affiliate programs close or merchants go into administration I have made sure that affiliates are paid and that we honour the commissions for the lifetime of the cookie. I’d like to think that the long term benefits in keeping relationships far out ways a short term financial hit.

    Cheers

Interesting thread. Affiliate Window will honour all approved commissions regardless of whether the merchant pays us or goes bust.

We already pay affiliates twice every month, about 2 weeks after merchants approve their commissions. This is standard for all AW affiliate programmes.

Our merchants are not required to pre-pay to take advantage of this and so we often pay our affiliates before our merchants have paid us.

We also do not claw back commissions from affiliates. When genuine commissions are approved we act as the financial buffer ensuring affiliates are rewarded for their efforts.

    Kind Regards

    The Affiliate Window Team

I didn't realise that .... so it's only AW "pendings" that are ask risk if a merchant hits the buffers.

    Good thread!
