They were doing books last week - and it was really annoying seeing some squished up minilinks about books. I wasn't looking for books so why show me books?
Sorry if this has been mentioned, but after Googles PR data push and 'Google Bombing' algo change of last week, they have now rolled out the integration of local results into search results from the main site. Searching for hotels in manchester now brings up local results in a huge box above the search results.
I imagine this will have quite a big impact particularly in travel. My first thought is that it will affect the ctr of adwords for those results also. Any thoughts? more info, and more and more

I think it's a really handy feature and you need to think about this long term. If Google can introduce features like this that only appear when they think you would need them then it will mean more people are likely to stay with Google as their preferred search engine. It always makes me giggle when I see my wife use Google to add up 2 numbers (talk about using a sledgehammer to crack a nut!) but it just goes to show that they plan to be more than just a search engine.
Now I know a lot of you are not Google's best friends but I for one owe my current lifestyle to the big G so I'm all for it!
One thing you can guarantee - Google will continue to innovate and introduce this kind of thing. At first they may get it a little wrong but over time you can imagine them almost second guessing what you are searching for. Look out for the Google brain API sometime in 2010![]()
Hopefully it won't end up working like regional news telly, just because I live in a certain area, doesn't mean I'm interested in that area's news. With sites like ibegin.com, google have to try and keep up. And yes it will affect CTR, the whole of the top third of the page is irrelevent as are the ads people are paying top notch for.
I'll be scrolling down for the actual search listing so aim your ads at 4th and 5th position for higher more relevent ctr perhaps.
