More charity... you'd think people were rich in this country.
Hello Everyone!
Want to be part of something BIG and give a little back? Join forces with your comrades and unite affiliates across the globe as a single force for good!
The Red Nose Day (RND) charity and Comic Relief have issued a digital challenge: Asking digital handlers to ‘Spread the Most Red’ by driving excessive amounts of traffic to the website throughout March.
Let us combine our energies for this great cause and expose a true juggernaut of digital media – Affiliates United!
This is truly a great cause. We all know the fantastic work of Red Nose Day, supporting the disadvantaged in the UK and Africa, ensuring every penny of funds raised goes to those in need.
What YOU can do:
A small amount of effort from you will make a huge difference to the campaign as whole. Adding a banner or link to your website and into your mailouts would see 100s of thousands of people exposed to this great cause, united we could really make a HUGE impact.
For those willing to go a little further, consider a solus email, a pop under, a full site take over, or turning your homepage red on 16th March?!
Tracked URLs and creative will be available very soon and include:
– Banners / Logo / Text Links / Solus Email (on request)
The challenge will be judged by Red Nose Day based on the amount of traffic driven to the RND site, the level of engagement achieved and how far the ‘Red’ was spread. The winner (Affiliates United!) will be showcased at the NMA Effectiveness Awards 2007.
Additionally, TBG London has launched a short Affiliate Marketing Survey, asking the real questions facing affiliate marketing current affairs. A £5 donation for completes* will be given to the Red Nose Day charity. So you can give a little back right now!
Thanks to A4U Forum for getting behind the cause and making this thread sticky. Look out for ‘Affiliates Unite – Red Nose Day 2007!’ details in the A4U newsletters.
PLEASE WATCH THIS THREAD FOR DETAILS ON CREATIVE AND CAMPIAGN PROGRESS.
The banners below have been encoded with the Affiliates Unite tracking URL and attached in a text file to this thread - as the script naturaly loads the banners.

Hello,
Is this through a network?
Have completed the survey, found this statement which we had to rate true, false or don't know interesting:
“The manner in which Affiliates communicate with each other on the Affiliate Forums can have a negative impact upon a campaign’s success”
Also, your thankyou page encourages us to visit the Red Nose Day site but there is no link to it.

Hello,
Red Nose Day raises something like 80/90% of its funds on the 16th March and they realy have one of (if not the most) reputable name in the world of charity organistations.
This has been made possible by a direct fundraising agreement with RND, their is no network involved - creative (available Monday) will be served and tracked by RND.
Hyper links should be in the survey by EOP.
Thanks very much,
Henri Loisel
What's the asterisk for?A £5 donation for completes*
Also, Zanox is misspelt, otherwise not a bad survey.
I think that an 'it depends' option might have been useful on a number of the questions :-)
In case anyone is wondering, the asterisk gives details of when the survey ends and that the £5 donation is capped at £1,000
[edit] Mogga beat me to it
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.
If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.
Henri,
Just wondered if TBG had helped with this, with no costing involved for the charity?
Cheers,
P.S I was asked earlier.![]()
ooh, there's an affiliate can of worms. If TBG are getting paid for organising it, is it fair that they expect everyone to take the offer for free, whilst at the same time reducing the publishers earning capacity by running the link? Is it a wise way to introduce RND to a new revenue generating channel by expecting you to do it for nothing. Then again, other charities running affiliate schemes do it normally - should RND be an exception?
How many other charities run Affiliate Schemes and is it more ethical to run one of these, or one such as RND where they dont expect to pay you - should you just be doing it anyway? And at the end of the day, will the data generated be used to market to other charities etc? Somehow Anyanka, I think that you'll wish you never asked...
So folks, should a charity run an affiliate scheme that pays you for every donation you generate, or should you be doing it for free?
*pulls up chair*
You might as well ask "Should charities spend money donated to them on advertising at all?" The fact is that charity affiliate schemes at least generate a measurable ROI, unlike other forms of advertising, both online and offline. I don't see that giving money to affiliates based on results is any worse than giving money to advertising agencies and print publications for running adverts in offline media.
I think that if TBG expects affiliates to promote this for free, they should waive their own fee and make this cost neutral for the charity concerned if they are not already doing this.
It was just a question for the agency to respond to. BTW there is no CPA.
I was just asking for the motivation behind the post? If TBG do this campaign for free then that's great! Asking for a new channel of distribution is something else...
Edit: Agree with the last posting on this... It's a charity!
Is it RND in the past that has run a challenge between marketing agencies to come up with the best promotion? Is that what this is about or am I thinking of something else?
I think the premise is the agency promotes the charity for free in return for some good PR for the agency. Not sure what affiliates get out of it.
Ah, Just found this: -(source)
Comic Relief calls on agencies to 'Spread the most red' online
Comic Relief has issued a challenge to digital agencies to help support Red Nose Day 2007 by spreading the charity's message across the web.
Comic Relief has called on agencies to place banners, buttons or widgets on their sites and turn them red for the day, the week or the whole campaign, to 'Spread the most red'.
"We're looking to see how digital agencies can help drive traffic to parts of rednoseday.com and engage users with the campaign," said Martin Gill, head of new media at Comic Relief.
The charity will select an overall winner for its effect on the Red Nose Day campaign, based on the levels of traffic driven to the Red Nose Day site, the level of engagement achieved through the activity, and how far the 'Red' campaign was spread.
The most outstanding ideas will also be displayed on rednoseday.com, The winner will also be showcased at the NMA Effectiveness Awards in London on 28 June.
All ideas must be submitted by 5pm on 12 March 2007 and should be sent to digitalchallenge@rednoseday.com.
So as a profit making agency, for filling in a survey you get information from affiliates that you can then use to make more money and you are going to tap on the conscience of the affiliate to part with his/ her information because you will give £5.00t to charity.
What a crock of manipulation!
Sorry, I don't agree with the words profit and charity being used in the same context in fact... it stinks. Charity should never be about making profits or making money off the back of some poor less fortunate person or animal.
Id say do your survey by all means but don’t jump on the charity bandwagon, please rethink this, I feel quite strongly about this. Ill do your survey gladly, willingly, just lose the charity part and instead... replace with a prize draw or some thing, if you really feel passionately about rednoseday, just donate anyway.
Sorry... makes me twinge
