Now all we need is for google to release something to compete with ebay's auctions business.

They may have taken a look at Yahoo US Auctions (which closes this week) and decided against it
eBay apparently have 94% share of the US auction market which didn't help Yahoo's efforts.

Not much commentary is needed on this one. Here’s what happened:

    1. eBay doesn’t allow merchants to use Google Checkout to settle eBay transactions. Google invited eBay online sellers attending eBay Live! in Boston this week to a party that they called the Google Checkout Freedom Party.
    2. eBay decides to pull all U.S. advertising on Google.
    3.

Google backs down, cancels the party.
    4. Google looks like a complete wimp; eBay looks like a bully.

The party appeared to be nothing more than Google poking a little fun at eBay’s restrictive policies. eBay hit back with the biggest weapon they had, suggesting that tension between the companies goes very deep.
Interesting that they don't get on - especially as they both must generate so much revenue for each other.

Google = The eBay of search engines
eBay = The Google of auction sites

Does anyone here not use those two websites for 95% of their search and auction activity?

Well eBay did indeed change the terms but it didn't stop affiliates using PPC - it just stopped them from having eBay as a landing page when using PPC in the US. (Only applies to three of the big PPC engines)

Indeed, but does anyone think that this latest removal of ads indicates that the banning of affiliates from using adwords had less to do with the affiliate programme, and more to do with politics?

I thought it was very interesting indeed.

Here's a link to an article about it from the Times Online.

Might I also say they are linking to some devestatingly interesting and insightful blogs in there. Definately everyone on the forum should be subscribing to whatever one on there is owned by a girl called "Kirsty McCubbin"

Good riddance.. eBay ads always turned up for the most inappropriate terms and were a waste of a click.

On my AdSense sites I banned eBay.com and eBay.co.uk a long time ago as they continually served up crappy ads.

Have they pulled their UK Ads too?

Both parties are as bad as each other, so maybe it was only a matter of time before they fell out (of bed), so let them squabble amongst themselves, sooner or later they will kiss & make up, more passionate than before & back in bed with each other.

Well I just searched for "african slaves", "used toilet paper" and "ebooks" and no ebay ads, so it seems that way!

Um seriously though, I think they have as I've tried some more serious searches, "used monitors", "buy cars" didn't yield anything. But "ebay" did.

Either way, I think they'll probably realise Google ads was fairly valuable and we'll be hit with those poor quality ads again!
