and plurals / non plurals are not distinguished
Agreed, this is where word tracker does come in useful, as it allows you to see whether its the single or plural search that gains the most traffic, its isn't always obvious (well not to me anyway )

I`m looking into a new niche, which I know very little about, so im pretty dependant on the tools. However, SEO Book and Wordtracker are giving hugely different results for the same keyword (high popularity in SEO Book, very low in Wordtracker), so I`m looking for some middle ground, to help me decide whether its worth trying the keyword.

I`m also looking at the Google External Keyword Tool, but thats pretty inprecise giving low, medium or high for search volumes. I`ve also looked at the bid prices in google, but know from experience these are wildly inaccurate!

Just wondered if there was another tool out there that I could use to help me make up my mind!

Just as an update to this thread, I couldn't find a tool I was 100% happy with, so I`ve written my own!

Been reading up on the various tools, and how accurate they are, and done a lot of work comparing results for my own sites against the figures the tools show, so I could alter the figures and add my own custom skew.

My tool reads data from a number of the free keyword tools, and combines it onto one page, along with various extra mods such as being able to click on suggested keywords to get an instant whois result to find if the name is taken or not.

It's been a lot of work, but I`m extremely pleased with the results, seem to give a much better overall picture, and having the combined data on one page rather than having to have loads of windows open makes life much easier! It's still a work in progress, as I keep adding to it and modifying it as I find out more, and thing of more things that would make it useful.

For me this is one of the biggest reasons to learn to code, if you don't like the way somethings done, then you can modify it to fit your exact requirements.

Unfortunately, i`m not able to open up the tool on my server, as I think if a number of people started using it, it would quickly get blocked!

For those who were interested in "Key Compete", I've just had an e-mail to say they are doing a half price deal. I think I'm going to give it a try so I'll update the thread once I've had a play.

    Hi Guys!

I would rather take the tool that gives the lower search volumes and manage the expectations of the campaign as opposed to using a dataset that seems wildly inflated and then have to firefight.
