Not terribly accurate, but will help in addition to other tools.
Does anyone know of any other tools apart from SEO Book and Wordtracker, that give an estimate of search volume for keywords?
I`m looking into a new niche, which I know very little about, so im pretty dependant on the tools. However, SEO Book and Wordtracker are giving hugely different results for the same keyword (high popularity in SEO Book, very low in Wordtracker), so I`m looking for some middle ground, to help me decide whether its worth trying the keyword.
I`m also looking at the Google External Keyword Tool, but thats pretty inprecise giving low, medium or high for search volumes. I`ve also looked at the bid prices in google, but know from experience these are wildly inaccurate!
Just wondered if there was another tool out there that I could use to help me make up my mind!

Google's new external keyword tool can be found at .. https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/KeywordToolExternal
Adcenter (Microsoft) has in in account tool (only covers MSN though)
KeywordDiscovery from Trellian has a huge (yet US skewed and wildly inaccurate) database - its probably better than wordtracker though
To be honest its pretty near impossible to get any two data sets to even vaguely agree.
Pick one and stick with it.

Has anyone ever used nichebot?
oh this is a paid service, but you might like it http://www.keycompete.com/
All I say is never be dependent on any singular one keyword tool each has varying characteristics and issues from word order to misspellings to plurals to popularity. When creating keywords think from the searchers perspective first & a search engines perspective second & maybe don t build basic keyword databases purely for search engine algorithmns.

As Paul sayswww.keycompete.com was mentioned a number of times over at Affiliate Summit, and certainly worth the money it seems.
Thanks for all the posts everyone! Really useful!
I`ll take a look at the links provided, and have a play.
At the moment, I`m stuck in a 50:50 situation, with one tool saying high searches for a keywords, and another saying really low searches. It would be great to have a third, just to help settle it!
Appreciate everyone's input...![]()
tbp - any update on this, how are you finding the various tools?
They are all pretty good. I like the look of Key Compete and heard good things about it, but not sure about shelling out on a subscription yet.
I suppose im also getting better at reading the results, and learning how the figures given actually relate to the real world.
This is some really great and for all of us whoever is hunting for keyword tags it needs to be taken to heart.

I would agree with all the tools mentioned above; however would say be carful with the overture tool as data is heavily skewed by automated searches; and plurals / non plurals are not distinguished. As mentioned above none of the tools are particularly accurate but using a few and getting an indication of popularity is about the best you can do.
As a side point I find that using the Google related searches at the bottom of the google search page as a mining start point is very useful. Similarly since Ask.com revamped they have added an expand / narrow your search feature on the left hand side is a useful starting point for lateral thinking before deep mining. These also obviously will let you know what the engines consider relevant popular keywords and get increased volume as they are linked from core terms.
