I have had a recent experience with this. I was in position 1 on google for a particular phrase but couldn't even get into the top few pages on Yahoo for the same phrase.

I realised that whilst Yahoo had indexed the site, I had forgot to validate it using the Yahoo Site Explorer tool. About a week after doing so, I was in position 1 on Yahoo too.
