    You can do that by doing something like this:

    yourdomain.com/basket.php?productid=46

    where basket.php is the redirect script, and productid is the id of the link in your database.

    Doesn't that assume that the Googlebot can read? Surely it's the same as:

    yourdomain.com/affiliatelink.php?merchant=46

    Wouldn't using a form and POSTing to your script be more effective?

    Yes, posting might be more convincing. Regarding Google reading, I think it is a safe assumption that it 'understands' certain words. E.g. 'links', 'resources', etc. Therefore, it may understand 'basket' or 'cart'.

    The amount of affiliate links that a page has should have no bearing on your quality score. However if an affiliate link or a derivative of an affiliate link (ex. a straight redirect) is directly placed with google then your ppc will increase. Read my blog on the Google Game.
