Yes disappointing that it's US only merchants for those of us with UK audiences. The reason I'm so interested is that I'm still having no luck finding dancewear merchants in the UK and keep looking at new networks in hope!

Oh well, back to the drawing board

Think I'll give this one a miss. I don't trust them and I don't think they like us much.

Google to start own email marketing. google to lauch own mobile phone, google to launch own supermrket like asda, goggle dvd rentals, but the wings will be cut off before it could rule the world.

Yeah, seems like they dont approve publishers from outside of USA:

Thank you for your interest in Google Affiliate Network, formerly DoubleClick Performics. At this time we cannot approve your application. Your application has been reviewed and may have been declined for one or more of the following reasons:

* Any other content that is illegal, promotes illegal activity, or infring es on the legal rights of others

4. Your site or business model is generally not a good fit for Google Affiliate Network and our advertiser programs.

Reasons 1 & 2 are the most common reasons for declining applications. If there are updates to your Web site you are welcome to reapply. Please contact us with any questions.

Hey mate,

Not quite sure that's true. I wanted to see what the network had to offer and was approved as a UK publisher no problem. Took about a week though.

As you would expect it's all very US centric but that's not to say that you can't go and play in other territories.

I get the distinct impression that they are tight on the doamin matching the email address you apply with.

Cheers
Paul

they've no way of becoming a merchant without significant upfront investment and advice. If Google can change that, then it could open up a huge tranch of opportunity for niche content sites.
Yep, but they're unlikely to spend the time educating merchants about the reality of running a successful affiliate programme. Google have never been great at the personal touch.

It's a great opportunity for afffiliates to find some uncontested niches, but on the other side I think I think we can expect a slew of merchants with unworkable sites on here wondering why the streets aren't paved with gold from risk-free sales.

Is this the new opportunity for content-rich sites who were worried about voucher codes ? Most of the SME's won't want the complication of running voucher codes.
That's hardly stopped some voucher code sites promoting them though has it?

  Re: Google Affiliate Network

I was rejected originally, but was still able to log in.

Being curious, I wondered what would happen if I tried to sign up with a merchant anyway, so I tried it (Advertisers>Join). This gave me a friendly message saying I hadn't been accepted, and a 1-800 telephone number for Publisher Relations.

I wondered whether the cause for the rejection was that I'd signed up with my company email address which is different from the website I'm promoting (Where Can I Find it in Stock?) so I phoned up the number to ask exactly what the rule was so I could reapply.

The nice lady I spoke to confirmed that yes, if you use a different email address than the domain you will probably be rejected automatically. And then she approved my application, so I didn't have to reapply.

HTH
Rachel
