Re: Free PHP Voucher Code Framework

Is the wiki supposed to look like that? It looks like a style sheet is missing or something.

It's not pretty, but it does the job...
When we get a minute we will spice it up a bit.

I've only just caught up on this thread. Is this summary right?

Raymond followed the suggestion of a database of codes for the community's benefit by buying a domain name to use anything that was created.

Almost simultaneously AF and Leeky started a project to develop a code management and display system. Leeky got a cob on because he thought AF copied him.

AF launch a tool which required a few updates to make it usable.

    The updates are included.

Leeky still is moaning about things thinking it actually makes a difference who came up with the idea and trying to assert his unfinished product is superior to that of the working AF product.

    AF launch a publisher wiki.

If that's right. I need to work out which tool to use. I think I'll use the system from the organisation that communicates with me and others in a diplomatic manner rather than someone that is confrontational and naive in the art of tact and diplomacy - regardless of how the product works.

I'm sorry, but I've got a million and one things to do, I don't want to waste my time syphering through rants. I'd much prefer to go to J Lil or Lownsy and have a productive discussion about the tool.

I know I'm opening up myself for another rant. But, speaking for myself and not as a mod, I'm fed up with people treating this forum as a playground rather than a method to mutually aid and inform others for the collective good.

At the end of the day, if your icodes is any good, it'll sell itself.

Yes, I did get a cob on at first, until I realised that the concepts were completely different :-), but the rest was obviously tongue in cheek.

iCodes is unfinished because it is far more complex than any other similar projects that are finished, in its 'unfinished' state it would be seen as finished and working as far as most projects go.

iCodes is selling itself and is doing very very well.

Thanks for fetching up something which was all forgot about, I thought a mods job was to calm things down not stir things up.

Hi Lee and Lee and everyone else.

I wrote the voucher framework (and still do). I didn't post while the debate was going on because didn't want to stir things up while people were getting all stressed, especially now I work for AF.

First off, we're all pleased with the interest the system is getting, and it is great seeing people use it in the spirit it was designed for - as a basis for your own sites and a quick introduction to setting up a pretty complex system in 3 php scripts or less.

This is a resource made available to help all affiliates earn money with all networks and AF were kind enough to foot the bill for developing it.

It is released freely into the community for you to do whatever you like with it. It isn't a new concept for networks to make resources available - this is just the same and was released to encourage afifliates to build new sites and take a closer interest in some simple programming.

Yup, there were a couple of bug fixes to be made to the system, partly because I was trying to keep things uber-safe, and partly because peoples servers have different configurations and character sets defined. I was pleased that we got it fixed and functioning for almost everyone on the day of launch, and within 2 days the system was stable (touch wood) across the majority of servers, regardless of their character sets and configurations. If anyone finds anything else please drop me a line.

It is nothing like Leekys proposition, though whether one is better than the other depends on who is modifying the framework and how much time is put in. Personally I think anything we can do to get more affiliates getting their hands dirty and developing their own sites is a good thing, even if it is just a case of modifying a templated site like ICodes.

On the other stuff... copying and stealing ideas... load of rubbish. Nuff said.

PS I haven't come across Raymonds voucher service yet - has anyone got a link?

Im sure that the voucher code system on pagerank10 sparked the idea off though, because this is what we based icodes.co.uk on... (although i doubt very much a network would admit that though)

    Lee
Sorry to come in late with this but I've just found this thread. Very interesting project and I've just downloaded it and will give it a whirl.

But Leeky, many people can have similar ideas at once. I wrote a voucher framework a few months ago. It started off just for ourselves but then I added the ability for others to sign up, add their network codes (for the main networks) and enter vouchers into a combined system.

I've not really read about yours so not sure how it works exactly. But the idea I was considering was running one site maintained by many affiliates. Whoever put the code in got the commission 50% of the time but we got the commission the other 50% (our pay for running the site). The idea being it would keep people busy putting codes in and keep the site fresh (the first in "owns" the code - although you'd have to have some system for "fair play")

Although basically written, I didn't get around to launching it - too many things on the go and this wasn't a priority. But the point is I had no knowledge of your system or the AF system, I just did it - probably as you just did yours and AF just did theirs.

Look forward to trying the AF system and having an up-to-date voucher code site (something I simply haven't go the time do to myself!)

    John

It's in the functions file (inc folder) - the function is:

    function draw_vouchers_merchant($merchtarget)

Have a gander and if you have any problems give us a shout!

    Cheers

You could go editing the functions file if you like, and we want everyone to customise as much as they can, but for this there is a simpler way.
The voucher codes are styled in < H4 > tags, so you can just increase the size of < H4 > in the css file (inc/global.css).

I have just added thumbnails to the system - it can now generate a screenshot of the merchant page using the thumbshots.org service.

    See an example here: http://www.urvouchers.co.uk/voucher....illet%20Sports

There is a slight change needed to the database if you are upgrading your installation, or you can just start from scratch - everything is included in the zip file, and a the readme file contains install and upgrade instructions.

    Get it from here: http://blog.affiliatefuture.co.uk/af-voucher-framework/

I have implemented the voucher code framework for one of my sites. But since I did the thumbnail update yesterday all the codes that I manually input are being listed twice. An example is here.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can correct this?

Yeh i tested it out today as a basis for my own site instead of coding the start from scratch and i'm having the exact same issue, codes entered are displayed and inputted twice to the database. Once i delete one an error on the top shows.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

(comes from adding codes on your own not through the xml update)
