Just got an e-mail from Digital Window saying that they bought Buy.at. It reminded me of the time when Valueclick bought Befree and erased it from existence by moving its advertisers to CJ.
Buy.at employees, if I were you I'd start looking for another job.
Buy.at did not really stand a chance. They had good ideas but they came to the market with too little too late.
Bye Buy.at
I dropped BuyAt ages ago but it was the corporate culture that was the problem, not the staff and there seems to be some good hardworking people there. Now that they are (hopefully) working for AW, which in my humble opinion is a very well run network, they could have a chance to really shine. Either way, good network staff do tend to move around a bit so if any of them do lose their jobs I'm sure that there will be other opportunities in this industry.
When a business is taken over it can be a worrying time for staff who may have mortgages to pay and kids to feed so much though I understand why marcelle should be so scathing I don't think it's fair to blame them for the sins and failings of their American masters (who are now, unlike their employees, probably laughing all the way to the bank!).

Agree, not good to just assume everyone is going to lose their jobs. With the increased client base Affiliate Window will get through the acquisition, I'm sure they'll need the Buy.at team. I'm guessing Buy.at as a stand-alone company won't survive, but would be amazed if they didn't just integrate the talent into the existing AWin structure, would make a lot of sense operationally.

Through your sarcasm I sense that you found my post inconsiderate. For that I apologize. I wrote my post with concern about Buy.at employees. Sometimes truth is harsh, I agree. I would have preferred it if the two companies stayed separate rather than to to have to deal with a monopoly. I am not happy with this acquisition either, but who gives a heck about me. I am an affiliate after all!
Instead of gving lessons in morality and shame, being a moderator, why don't you grace us with your 2 cents worth!
My bad! I shouldn't have made the assumption. I must admit, however, that in your initial response to my posting you did not exactly sound as an exhilarated champion of this acquisition. Still, I should not have jumped into conclusions.
I was more concerned that less than 24 hours after the staff at buy.at heard the news you were adding to an already stressful situation with your unfounded comments. We have great people here at buy.at and no one should forget that.
Anyway, apology accepted, lets get over it.
OK
I think that the aquisition makes a ton of sense at a certain price for AWIN, they get a great team with easily transferable skills without the associated training costs, a variety of useful and complementary technology tools, and of course, a whole heap of clients and associated contracts. From a market share perspective it makes extremely sound sense to "buy" revenue.
From a Buy.at history point of view there's no doubt that the history during the AOL "era" was rocky for the team over there, I don't think the "integration" into Platform A could be considered successful by any measure.
I sincerely hope that the team at Buy.at are embracing the new ownership as an opportunity. There is absolutely no reason to think that this represents anything other than an opportunity for them all to reestablish themselves both individually and as a group as key industry players, to suggest that there jobs are unsafe is not only based on nothing, it is also cruel, derisory and, in my mind downright wrong. Its not tough love (as you are not in possession of the facts) it is just unkind (and wrong)
