Iceland - Affiliate Competition

Hello All

Here at Iceland we thought we’d like to hot things up a bit. We are running a search engine optimisation competition with some fantastic prizes to be won. The competition kicks off today and will run until it is won, so grab a copy of notepad or FrontPage and get seo'ing!

The competition is based around the natural results in the Google search engine for the keywords - Home Shopping.

What you have to do!

To be in with a chance to win a prize in this competition you would need:
1. To display either an Iceland Banner or Link in a prominent position on your website
2. To be ranked in the top ten natural listings on either Google or Google search for UK pages only for the keyword string above – i.e. Home Shopping

The winner will be the first affiliate to achieve a top 3 ranking for the search string – home shopping, and hold it for at least 7 days.

The runners up prizes will be given to the first two affiliates who achieve a top ten ranking for the search string. You can’t win both so if you get top 3 first then you are ineligible for a runner up slot.

Prizes

There are 3 prizes available and they will be given to 3 separate affiliates as set out below:

• 1st Prize Plasma Widescreen TV
• Runner up Prize LCD Widescreen Television
• Runner up LCD Television

Or equivalent cash value

• 1st Prize is £1750
• Runner up is £750
• Runner up is £500

Terms & Conditions

Please note it will be the affiliates responsibility to inform the network when they have gained their ranking and we will start the 7 day clock from this point. All final decisions will rest with Iceland.

ooo nothing like a challenge to make the game interesting

"home shopping" .. 18,100,000 results for google.co.uk

19k searches a month via overture for the phrase

umm ranking first/top ten for an 18 million strong phrase isn't a small task methinks

I see you've saved a copy of the page in dreamweaver

and
have had a good look around.

It's a bit all over the place at the moment and has dropped out again, but looking back at the rules it says,
"The runners up prizes will be given to the first two affiliates who achieve a top ten ranking for the search string"
It doesn't mention having to stay there for 7 days.
Please can we have this clarified Alanya.

Hi Guys,

Hats off to you T.J. – we did not expect anyone to be in the top 10 so quickly, we are very impressed.

Clarification of the Rules.

To qualify as a runner up you need to be within the top 10 position for 7 days - minimum.

We have started the clock T.J.’s site as of 6:50am 04/03/05. Just another 159hrs to hold it and you’ll be the first runner up!

(T.J- push it a bit more and you could be the overall winner!!!)

(If an affiliate is in the top 10 for say 3 days and then makes it to position 1, 2, or 3 – for 5 days then drops back to lower top 10 because they have been in the top 10 for 7 days they are eligible to be a runner up still.)

TJ - I've had a look for your site in G.co.uk and .com but connot see anything. Am I being blind or has it dropped out?

Hi Rusty,
It's there at the moment, but chances are it comes and goes as
data centres are revolved.
It's prety standard behaviour and probably wont settle down
for a couple of days.
To be honest I don't know how Iceland can judge this competition
the way G is revolving data centres at the moment.
If they have to re-set the clock everytime a site enters the top 10
and then drops out again, they will have to have someone
watching 24hrs a day constantly re-setting the clock.

TJ - where has your site gone!?

I know you are concerned as to how the competition is to be monitored.

As soon as i get told an affiliate is in the top 10 i will start monitoring the site on a daily basis, i was checking it 3 times a day!

It will probably be in and out for a few more days yet,
so I should think you will have to keep starting the clock quite
often.
It went top 3 at around 01:00 AM this morning, but I doubt it will
stay there for long.
Still, at least I have made my first bit of commission from the page

Nice one mate - I saw it at about the same time so can verify this with Iceland tomorrow for you - fingers crossed it sticks - top 3 should be nice traffic considering the second is a .gov site.
