Never promoted CD-Wow, not at their commission rate. 2.6% is about 20p on the sale of a £10 CD. When you can get four or five times more commission from other entertainment retailers, doesn't make sense.
Yes, the leaks are an increasing problem.
Common problem with 'successful' merchants. They 'discover' more and more ways to make revenue, but don't include their new revenue streams in our commissions. They get our traffic - and don't have to pay us for sales generated on these new product lines. Is exactly the same with WHSmith, Amazon.co.uk and SendIt.com - you don't get nowt for ringtones, DVD rentals and the plethora of other products these stores now sell.
Most affiliate programs go through this lifecycle, with the last stage being shameless greed and disrespect for affiliates (40% of product lines on WHSmith home page earn us no commission; commission rate used to be 10% is now 7%). The biggest and best affiliate programs today we'll all be moaning about in two years 'cos they have leaks, don't pay on time or have slashed their commissions![]()
