Great to see O2 finally on Buy.at Hayley.

But...how about asking them to create an affiliate friendly landing page that doesn't have the huge phone number on it, urging customers to call?

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback on your initial thoughts with regards to joining Buy.at.

While in theory I do sympathise with your opinion on the phone number on the home page, this is core to the customer experience with O2.

I can assure you that every other mobile network would be in agreement with me on this, it's not in our interests, financially speaking, to have customers using the telesales option.

But we need to offer customers who do not want to use an online order process a viable option. Having the phone number buried within the site is one way of doing damage to our customer relations.

At a customer experience level, it's imperative hence why it needs to be there.

Hope my explanation helps in your understanding of our position.

    kind regards,

    John Maher

    John

Do you know what proportion of orders come via the phone number?

If you do, and for the sake of argument lets say it's 20%, why not uplift your affiliate commissions by 20% to 'compensate' affiliates for the commission that is being lost?

Hi John and thanks for joining in this thread. However I have to strongly disagree on this matter. As I blogged about recently there are a whole load of huge well known brands who have an ecommerce website with either no phone numbers available to view or only on a contact us page.

Out of the 5 major mobile networks neither Vodafone, T-Mobile or Virgin Mobile display phone numbers as prominently (if at all) as O2 who as far as I can see have it in huge text on *every single page*. There is only Orange and O2 who do in fact.

Plus, pretty much all of the major resellers, E2Save, Phonespot, Mobileshop, Carphone Warehouse etc. don't feel the need to either.

A compromise would be to just have the phone number on the "contact" page. If a web user really wants to get in touch with O2 by phone then they will seek this out. As at the moment I feel that O2 are actively encouraging users to phone in with pages like this https://shop.o2.co.uk/phone/Sony_Ericsson/W880i

Or if removing the phone number just isn't an option then increase your CPA's above the board. Being totally honest £35 is not competitive in this market whatsoever, have you seen how much Vodafone and Three are offering affiliates? Yes I know volume will lead to better deals and higher CPA's but right now with a phone number on every page and a £35 starting CPA I'm not willing to push this program at all.

Sorry to sound negative, O2 is a great brand, your site looks great and the tariffs are reasonably competitive...and its great to see you on Buy.at. Plus I know you have been in this business for a long time. But I just expected a whole lot more from the O2 program on Buy.at.
