    Affiliate Window – Content Widgets

Affiliate Window are delighted to present our latest addition to the ShopWindow Toolset, Content Widgets. This innovative linking method will help you monetise your web traffic simply and efficiently.

Content Widgets supersede our old technology, referred to as Custom Content Units. The new Content Widgets enable you to populate websites and emails with products that are as specific or generic as you choose.

For example a DIY specialist might publish an email newsletter with a feature on 'Cordless Power Drills'. Using Content Widgets this publisher can now add a banner containing just cordless power drills, as show below,

    <script src="http://www.awin1.com/wshow.js?s=77352"></script>

Alternatively, the same DIY specialist may have a webpage discussing the benefits and pitfalls of installing a loft ladder. They can now add links to loft ladders that can be purchased online. For the example below a set of 'single product' Content Widgets have been created.

    <script src="http://www.awin1.com/wshow.js?s=77281"></script> <script src="http://www.awin1.com/wshow.js?s=77105"></script> <script src="http://www.awin1.com/wshow.js?s=77355"></script> <script src="http://www.awin1.com/wshow.js?s=77364"></script>

You can make any number of Content Widgets, they are all stored and managed in your Affiliate Admin Area.

Please login to your <Affiliate Administration Area> and click on the 'Content Widgets Link' in the right hand navigation box (shown below).

We are confident you will like this new feature and this great product development is set to continue. In coming weeks we will add even more functionality that will make these widgets one of your favourite linking methods.

    hey more sizes quickly

the 600x520 doesn't scale and is too wide for a lot of sites as a centre piece. The widget other sizes don't offer anything comparable to use in this repect so I'm still stuck using the old content units until this is solved.

The new widgets are great but please get some more sizes up quickly

    regards

    Looks good

Any chance it could create some code in php we could put into our pages rather than javascript so that we can have search engine friendly content?
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.

If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.

Well it is only their version 1. A php version has been around for the last year.

Still it's excellent to see networks now beginning to offer exactly what is needed for affiliates to effectively promote merchants and for instantly updated creative to become available. The simplicity of the platform is you select the products you want in the widget and it then displays. This can also be randomly rotated to refresh every time (something for AW to consider adding) by selecting a number of products to be displayed but only having a handful on each refresh.

    Content Widget - Bug reporting

Link to Content Widget bug reporting forum

Thanks to Gunneradt, who has reported a bug last night (please see the post above). We are unable to see/get this error message when testing the system this morning and the server logs are not reporting and errors or downtime.

As you would expect, we are keeping a very close watch on our systems during these first few days and will report, address and fix any issues that may arise. If you encounter errors please let us know. Bugs are best reported in The ShopWindow Forum, as the will be seen quicker and should enable us to address them most efficiently.

    Many thanks.

is it anything to do with the fact that I was a beta tester, David? Nothing to do with cookies? I was off out last night so didn't have a play around with it. It made me tick/accept a form which I hadn't seen before and then I got that.

Any update on when we are going to get more options in the new widgets? The problem at the moment (and you may not agree with this) is that they are not as good or as flexible as the old content units. The product feeds work properl;y but I can't use them as extensively as the old units and I don't suppose I'm the only one.

They need to be (or at least one widget needs to be):

    1. scalable width and depth
    2. able to take a pre-selected number of items
    3. option for larger pics as per old content units

    Hi TPB
Has the problem resolved itself now, or am I looking into a bigger issue?

    Hi Gunner

As part of the test group you were not obliged to accept the Terms and Conditions until yesterday, hence you were asked to do this recently. The next step after accepting the T&C’s (for most) is for a bespoke dataset to be complied. Your account already had that a dataset and it is possible this duplication caused the error message existed. The error message is no longer showing and you are able to build and edit Content Widgets as before.

Phase II is a matter of weeks (not months) away and will incorporate the addition of extra template sizes. All other ideas for improvements; Scalability, pre-selected items, larger pics, etc are being compiled into one big ‘to do’ list. Some will be implemented (and some won’t), priority will be given to the features you and other users collectively highlight as most important.

    I will keep you updated.

    Thanks David

I just think it's important that the widgets offer features at least as good as the old content units. At the moment they are not quite as versatile.

Yup, another vote for more versatility from me, too.

I've created one content unit with, I believe, 26 products. I'd very much like the content unit to rotate between those products rather than showing the same 3 until one or more go out of stock.

As these are showing on a fairly popular Premiership football blog, showing the same 3 products over and over isn't going to work too well.

And yes, I'm aware that I can create several content units and add them to a banner rotator, but that defeats the value of having lots of products in a single content unit.
