Hi Everyone
I manage all online activity for Autoglass® and am working with Ross at Affiliate Window to develop and grow our recently-launched affiliate scheme.
I’m new to affiliate marketing and our scheme has only been running for two weeks so I still have my ‘L’ plates on.
One thing (amongst many) that I‘ve learned from the A4U Forum is that affiliates appreciate merchants who communicate.
Although I’m unlikely to ever be able to match the amazing feats of affiliate communication performed by the likes of Zak and the team at Prezzybox, I thought I’d make a start.
The market for vehicle glass repair and replacement
- This will come as no surprise to all you drivers, but there are a lot of vehicles on the UK’s roads – over 32 million in fact
- At any time, around a quarter are likely to have glass damage – that’s approximately 8 million vehicles
- Every day vehicles get fresh glass damage
The potential market is huge, but that’s not all…
- 93% of private passenger vehicles have glass damage cover in their insurance
- Windscreen repair is usually free if you have fully comprehensive insurance
But
- If you ignore a stone chip in your windscreen, it won’t go away – instead there is a good chance of it turning into a crack, in which case you will need a replacement windscreen.
- If you are insured, a replacement screen will cost you your policy excess
The key message
So, what we do in our radio and other advertising is promote the message that if you have fully comp insurance, getting Autoglass® to repair a windscreen chip will save you money (i.e. you won't have to pay your excess for a replacement screen later) and repair is usually free.
We have to say 'usually free' as there are one or two insurers that levy a small excess charge for repair but in most cases it is free.
What are the biggest obstacles?
- Some people still don't know it's possible to repair a windscreen (we advertise heavily on commercial radio but not everyone listens to those stations)
- Lots of people are aware of windscreen repair yet they do nothing, because they think they:
- don't have time (a repair takes about 30 minutes)
- can't afford it (for most it will usually be free)
- can't be bothered (if they know about repair then they likely know it could save them paying their insurance excess for a new screen later on)
- don't know how to arrange it (book it online at the Autoglass® site)
- it's a lot of hassle (Autoglass® takes care of all the insurance paperwork)
What do we pay affiliates?
- Windscreen repair (that’s where we fix stone chips in a windscreen) £3.75
- Windscreen replacement (a whole new windscreen) £6.00
- Side window replacement £3.75
- Rear window replacement £3.75
We pay when someone completes an online booking with valid details – you don’t have to wait till we carry out the work on the car window.
There is a page on our affiliate site that explains how the online booking process works.
Windscreens vs side and rear windows
BTW – since we launched our new site in January this year, we’ve found that most of our online bookings are for windscreen repair and windscreen replacement. Hardly anyone books a side window or rear window replacement online.
It’s understandable when you think about it – if someone has put a brick through your side window and stolen your SatNav you’re going to be pretty upset and most people’s reaction is to get on the phone straight away.
More information
There’s some good information on repair and replacement including some neat little animated demos on the Autoglass® site (see "Your glass damage").
Join our scheme
If you are thinking about joining our scheme, I’d like to encourage you to visit our affiliate site and read the information there. And to join the scheme please go to Affiliate Window.
Finally, thank you for reading this far! I’m very happy to receive feedback or answer any questions you may have.
