    Hi everyone

Please find below some amendments to the current Dixons discount codes and commissions:

The spend and save codes remain the same except the SAVE10 will be applicable from £299 rather than £249 :

    Spend over £299 Save £10 - Code SAVE10

    Spend over £499 Save £25 - Code SAVE25

    Spend over £999 Save £50 - Code SAVE50

The change will be live from tomorrow.

    Code extension

The following code has been extended:

    5% off everything over £299 – code GIMME5

There is no current expiry date to this code

Please note – only one code can be used at any one time

    Nintendo Wii

Commission on the Nintendo Wii has been reduced to 0.5%

No discount codes can be used with Wii purchases and only one order per customer is allowed

    Regards
    Richard

    Hi Richard,

I know we have spoken on msn, but I did say I would comment, 0.5% is bang out of order from that merchant, Dixons. Especially when we have sent over 2000 wasted clicks yesterday and a similar amount today, cos they are appearing in the shopwindow feed for out of stock products (which i realise you are trying to rectify).

But how about we give immediate notice to Dixons giving them a high noon deadline tomorrow to sort the product feed out or they will be binned as a merchant, which is a longer courtesy period to what they extended to affiliates.

What is it with the DSG group & their amoebic brain approach or come christmas a few merchants seem to go devoid of reasonable logic & reasoning?

PS I am not shooting the messenger

    I would like to hear from the MERCHANT themselves, the rational behind their reasons as to why they have decided to;
    a) increase spend for £10 voucher
    b) decrease %age for Wii

Also can they explain why such short notice has been given, and whether they think this type of notice is fair.

Would it be possible to get someone from DSG to comment?

Personally I'm not expecting a knock on effect, on the sales I generate, especially as everywhere only seems to have Wii's in stock for 7.3 minutes, but nevertheless I would like to know DSG reasoning.

I reckon the reason for short notice of Wii commission change is that they will be receiving a shipment of Wii's in the next couple of days.

I don't understand why Dixons are offering the the three SAVE codes concurrently with the GIMME5 5% OFF orders over £299 which is a much better offer.

Perhaps I am stupid but I can't see any circumstance where the discount is greater when the SAVE10, SAVE25 or SAVE50 code are used rather than the GIMME5. In which case these SAVE codes are redundant and just confuse the issue, and make it more difficult for affiliates to communicate to visitors merits of using a discount code at Dixons.

This is especially true when the landing page does not mention the superior GIMME5 discount code but the less good SAVE codes.

I am sorry I need to write this critical post as Dixons regularly offer generous discount codes which do increase conversions but I think conversions would be better if Dixons avoided offering different types of discount code concurrently when one type is clearly better than another - it is making shopping at Dixons more complicated than it need be-and surely the landing page should include all discount codes, and especially the best one.

Just to let everyone know that Dixons will be responding to your queries shortly.

And this was correct - Dixons had Wii's this morning (now sold out) which now earns you a whopping £1.40 on the £279.99 console bundle.

Richard, many thanks for this, its much appreciated as I am sure a few more have a few questions.

As for the 5%, I was told that this COULD be used in conjunction with other discounts. Has this changed or was I wrongly informed to start off with?

Andy, I don't see this as being critical, its just a tad confusing and raises a number of questions in different areas. If we all worked in an office together and had a meeting then these questions would be raised and answered on the spot.

This is the best place to raise a question where it affects everyone otherwise if were all to email Awin directly, I would suspect Richard would spend most of day replying to emails

To be fair on Dixons, the GIMME5 code was just supposed to run over the weekend and so it was good for affiliates to give them that extra push for a few days.

Then I suspect the code was a success, so it was decided to continue it.

It then would have been unfair to say to everyone you have to remove the other codes which run to the end of the month (but they have increased the minimum spend on one of them).

I am all for more codes. Yes, three of them are currently redundant but Dixons may decide to stop the GIMME5 code at any time, so at least we'd have them too.

The notice period is simply not on. I actually bought two wiis this morning from Dixons, if I'd have known that they were going to show this level of disdain for affiliates (again, sorry to be harsh, but, come on) I would have spent the extra and got them on ebay

All Dixons discount codes have the disclaimer that they can be removed at anytime so we affiliates always have the issue that codes may end earlier and we have to alter our websites.

In this case, it would be better IMO if the SAVE discounts were ceased and the GIMME5 replaced it.

I have an electricals comparison site in which I compare prices which include Currys & Dixons discount vouchers. So today, I have updated it to reflect the 5% off orders over £299 but I feel obliged to mention the SAVE discount vouchers even theough they are less good because the landing page mentions the SAVE vouchers but not the GIMME5.

So I have lots of messages like the following on my website:

"DIXONS is now exlusively online and offer a PRICE MATCH PROMISE in which they check 30 competitor websites daily and promise to offer the lowest price. Dixons currently offer discount vouchers for £10 to £50 OFF AND an even better offer of 5% OFF all orders over £299. For 5% OFF all orders over £299, please enter the discount code GIMME5 in the Promotional codes box on the Basket Page & press "Update". For £10 OFF all orders from £299.01 to £499, please enter the discount code SAVE10. For £25 OFF all orders from £499.01 to £999, please enter SAVE25. For £50 OFF all orders over £999, please enter SAVE50. Only one discount code can be used in any transaction. The lcd/plasma television prices displayed below include the 5% OFF all orders over £299 discount where applicable. This offer ends 3 December 2007."

However, I would like it to be much briefer and less confusing as follows:

"DIXONS is now exlusively online and offer a PRICE MATCH PROMISE in which they check 30 competitor websites daily and promise to offer the lowest price. Dixons currently offer 5% OFF all orders over £299. For 5% OFF all orders over £299, please enter the discount code GIMME5 in the Promotional codes box on the Basket Page & press "Update". In that case, I'd list the best code and link to the Dixons home page rather than their voucher page. Their home page may convert better too.

I appreciate that the profit margins on games consoles are low, but they're actually selling about £100's worth of software with these bundles. The profit they're making on the software will be more than the profit on the console itself.

Yes, not linking to the affiliate landing page may be the best solution in this circumstance. It has some helpful advice if the discount code does not work but I would prefer not to confuse my visitors by not linking to this page.
