The cheap brand bidders overwriting other affiliate cookies is actually a big issue for merchants imo, not just affiliates. From a merchants point of view, looking for valuable affiliates with good content to promote your program and keep promoting it is a key objective.
Surely overwriting is going to put off the very affiliates that a merchant really wants. The affiliates who really know their stuff will just use other merchants, because they know the conversion rates are affected by overwriting.
None of this helps the industry. In some cases, presumably the merchant could be left thinking that the affiliate marketing is not working, without realising that the reason its not working is that the 'right' affiliates didn't bother promoting the program.
