ShopWindow and Red Letter Days launch BETA ShopWindow video players

We've been working with the tech wizards over at Affiliate Window for a little while now as the first merchant to test a fantastic new video player that integrates seamlessly with ShopWindow.

That’s right...this nifty tool makes it simple to add our action-packed experience day videos to your site and they’re available now in your affiliate account. All you need to do is go to 'Banners and Links' for Red Letter Days, click on 'Dynamic' linking and under 'Text Link' you’ll find the code (and a preview) for all the videos.

They look simply fantastic and are available just at the right time for you to benefit from our mad Christmas gifting rush:

We're really proud to have been AWin's guinea pig for creating this awesome piece of kit that I’m sure will prove extremely popular with all of AWin's merchants!

We think it's great that merchants of all sizes from smaller players through to the big guys will soon be able to deliver video content to affiliates in such a well integrated and easy-to-implement way.

Please remember that these players are still in BETA testing, so we may uncover a few bugs along the way, and we'd really appreciate your feedback to help us uncover any issues.

Hey

I know I'm a merchant, but would be interested in some more info on this:

- can you post a working example? if you just copy the code into a post it should work.

- what happens if the videos fail? Networks historically haven't been too good at supporting either flash or videos in general, which is why merchant's have tended to develop video tools in-house.

There isn't currently a back up if a video fails. It is a good addition so i'll take a look in to doing that. We have a few options there, serve up a simple flash ad or an alternative generic merchant video.

4 things:

I think you'd be best off going with a standard ad message if something goes wrong. You'll probably need this anyway, in case the entire video system fails. Its an unlikely scenario but can happen.

Also, it may just be me but I think you need to make it clearer the drop-down is there when the video is playing. A transparent 'more' button might work, or a bit of the drop-down being visible. I think you need to encourage people to mouse over the info more.

Again its just a style preference, but I think the mini image in the drop-down is a waste of space. You'd be better off having more product text- its getting cut off at the moment (you'll need to sort this anyway, text is largely pointless right now).

Also, at the moment when not in use the video seems to show a black screen? I think this would be much better as a video still.

This is just my opinion, but I did spend about 6 months developing our own video player and have thought about style points a lot.

If you're already joined up the the programme you just need to go into your affiliate account and locate the 'Banners and Links' for Red Letter Days. All the videos are in the 'Dynamic' linking section and under 'Text Links'. From there you can copy the code or click on 'show full size' to view previews of each video.

We're aware this isn't ideal and it should be much more clear through the interface if video content is available. We are planning a major overhaul of the entire Links and Banners system in the new year.

Good idea! Dynamic gift finder code also tends to go into Text Links, I think it confuses a lot of affiliates.
