I'm getting a conversion ratio of 0.04% with Halfords - is this the norm? AW have checked the linking and reckon it's fine. Do you think people just go to the store instead of buying online?

Probably, yes. I would imagine with stores like Halfords the problem is that a lot of people use it to research prices of stuff, rather than to actually buy anything?
And of course, without checking, I guess they are one of those intelligent retailers who have a discount code box presented to all and sundry?

Halfords don't pay commission on collect at store orders, so it's possible that you're sending them sales that you never see recorded, as people choose to 'click & collect'.
This became apparent to me over Christmas where Halfords were pushing 'reserve & collect at store and get a free £10 voucher', at which point my conversion dropped to about 0%!

I posted a similar thread not so long ago, so we are both in good company

Personally i think it's an awful ... awful program

20856 clicks for 24 sales £192.9 commission in 2008 ... EPC of less than 1 pence per click & 0.12% conversion

I've checked the conversion and now its dropped to 0.03% - I'll try using the links in the feed rather than deeplinks. If that does not work then its bye bye Halfords. I'm not sending them free traffic that's for sure.

Danny, May I ask if do you use shopwindow? create own deeplinks? or link to the homepage?

Most of our traffic is from shopwindow feed.

No, I don't use shopwindow for Halfords, and I rarely use it because (from my experience) products have been known to change and it's a hassle.

Homepage... No, I link to this page Halfords Advice Centre - and try to push the Sat Nav discount codes from that page.

To be honest I've been using ShopWindow content units for my targetted Wii Fit page, which ranks nicely for a lot of terms - 30 or 40 click outs so far today (click tracking working ok) with the retailers EverythingPlay, Toys'r'us and Tech Focus; and it's poor, very poor - I may have created a slack handful of sales from that page in the last 4 weeks but that's about it.

Well, I've swapped over to using the feed links and we've had a conversion ratio today of 0.09% - so no change there then.

As cgphome mentioned, they only payout on home delivery and not on collect in store this is probably the main reason (along with voucher code leakage at the checkout).

0.09% is a joke - time to remove them I think

I don't target the sat nav, but predominantly bikes using shopwindow.

ep90, may i ask if it is bikes you mainly promote too?

Qui Gon Jinn - I've been promoting all the products in the datafeed (or sending Halfords free traffic - depending how you look at it)

I might try defaulting the links from the shopwindow feed to homepage to see if that makes any difference (clutching at straws), it does seem one of those merchants we have been a little too charitable towards.

Unfortunately, the account manager for Halfords is out of the office today. In the meantime, I'm getting the technical team to do a full programme audit to test all the different link types. We will let you know the outcome.

It would be interesting to know what % of customers use the click and collect option. I have noticed merchants advertise this option on their tv adverts etc.
Promoting similar high st merchants who pay comm for click and collect have noticed a lot of visitors use this option, and also sadly the rejection rate is higher, I guess as customers dont always end up clicking the product.
