Thread: AWIN: good, bad or just average?

As a merchant I'm considering the viability of joining multiple affiliate networks to increase our exposure.

I've seen a few negative things about AWIN and I guess I'm asking if they are generally ok or whether the things I've read about are the norm?

From the point of view of affiliates, what is the best affiliate network? Or are they all pretty much the same?

    Cheers,
    Tim

Refer to the polls, which maybe a couple of pages down in each of the networks. There are various ones covering payments and preferred networks.

    When doing a Poll:

For example : "Which Network do you MOST prefer"

Would not yield the same interpretation as

For example : "Which Network do you LEAST prefer"

It is like asking the population of the UK, the following two questions.

Which Football Team do you LIKE the most?
Which Football Team do you DIS-LIKE the most?

Manchester United, would no doubt, come top in both polls.

Unless you do an order of preference poll or head to head (one on one). I am sure there wouldn't be too much objection, if you submitted two polls to run concurrently.

The advantage of the poll rather than a the direct question in this instance, is anomonity.

I have had no luck on AW and it's not via lack of merchants they have a load, yet I struggle to make £50 yet take in thousands on the other networks.. strange old game. It could of course just be my sites as a few people here have reported great results with certain merchants.

As a UK Company of I was to pick a network it would be DGM, then TD then CJ .. If I was a US/Canada Company it would be CJ, DGM (don't think TD would have you) and if I was a European company (non-UK) it would be TD, CJ and DGM.

To go against the grain - I quite like Awin!

It's true that a lot of the merchants don't convert but I've found about 3 that do ok and aren't available else where.

I've also found Hannah good at responding quickly to e-mail and I do think the continued improvements on stats, banners etc are a good move forward.

The other thing I like is that there has never been a payment delay in my experience (nothing like TD!) I get the money by BACS on time every month and they also post me an invoice for my records.

I don't think it's the best network but I think it's good in places.

As I understand it, it's also low cost as these network things go.. I don't like to base things on price but sometimes it can't do any harm to join a network if it's costing you very little.. at least you get access to a load more affiliates however I would say all your "super affiliates" are members of most already.. mind you I wasn't a member of Affiliate Future until just a few days ago.

yeah I think the fact that Awin is low cost is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Good small merchants can join without huge investment and have access to lot's of affiliates. but merchants who aren't all that interested in devevloping their program or don't have anyone in charge of it can start up a program too easily/cheaply without putting as much thought in to it as they would if they paid CJ prices.

Yeah AW is a mystery to me, have just as many merchants but make sod all, I think the main problem with them is that it seems that merchants can validate the sales whenever they like. This is clear when I get 20+ emails from the same merchant saying I have made a sale, I think some must leave it months.

yes this is true of FoodnDrink.co.uk I get bombarded with email once a month, it's like I am under and email attack LOL .. but least each one means I made 40p so I don't mind them in the slightest.. plus it shows they are doing it regular even if just once a month.

Wow! Thanks for all the feedback.. and thanks for the private messages too...

It's interesting what you say about validate or approved orders.. with Affiliate Future all sales are approved by default and the emphasis is on the merchant to reject them quickly if they are fraudulent or otherwise invalid..

Personally I don't mind this because I like to do business honestly and I don't like the thought of our affiliates sitting around waiting for money they are owed.

I'm really happy with the performance so far on Affiliate Future, so long as it keeps growing.. but I'm impatient, so I'm going to look at other networks next week.

    TD seem pretty interesting.

    Thanks again!

Dont forget us aswell inkfactory we may not have as many affiliates online but we also have the causes members some of whom total 1000000 members in this country which is a lot of purchasing power.

As regards online affiliates we do have a few and the ones we have are very good indeed.

Main points are our tracking works and we pay on time which is all most people want to know. By the way these arent my words but the words of one of our valued super affiliates on this board previously.

    Just my two penneth :-)
