Good scripts for Affiliate window datafeed

Hi guys,

Bit of a noob question here. I'm starting a new site which I would like to incorporate the Affiliate Window datafeed.

I've not used datafeeds before and have very limited experience with php and mysql. What I'd like to do is have a dynamically updated product showcase but ideally would also like a script which can generate individual product pages.

I've been doing alot of reading about datafeeds and from what I've gathered there are quite a few scripts such as WebMerge and Price Tapestry. Webmerge only generates pages unfortunately and doesn't support a dynamic product showcase while Price tapestry has much more functionality but it comes in at a whooping £200! A bit too steep for a beginner affiliate.

I was wondering what solutions you guys adopted with regards to Affiliate Window datafeeds. Did you use one of these affiliate scripts or did you get a bespoke PHP job?

Hi, I write my own scripts, and then generally hand out the code that I write, if you tell me exactly what you want to do, from start to finish, I can give you the tools you need to do the job.

You're aware of Affiliate Window's ShopWindow client software? There's a support forum at shopwindowforum.com. I use their Client software which creates an off the shelf price comparison site.

What I need to do at the moment, is use the datafeed to update the details of a range of products displayed on several pages.I'm only promoting 1 merchant on the site, so it should be easier. The homepage should also display the "popular products" of that merchant. Here's where it might get a bit tricky: I want to place the affiliate links from the datafeed into a jump script and then have all the product links to that jump script instead of direct to the merchant.

Later on, I plan to also dynamically create pages for each individual product from the datafeed.

So it's no different from most affiliate sites out there but alot of them use scripts like Price Tapestry which cost a fortune!

I'm wondering whether instead the Shopwindow API or even the client would suffice in this instance and would it make it easier? I posted a question on the Shopwindow forums but no reply as of yet: API, Client Softare or datafeed? - ShopWindow Forum

I've read through the shopwindow documentation but it just left me with more questions.

I don't see how you could easily use a jump script in an automated fashion, it would be difficult to populate the jump script automatically from a feed, and if you had to do it manually it would defeat the point of using feeds, i.e. easy maintenance.

Really? Although I'm no PHP expert , I would imagine it would be just as hard/easy as updating your product pages. i.e. a short script would pull all the aff link data from a MySql database and populate the jump script.

Absolutely ... it has been done several times over, e.g. jump/prodindex and the jump script grabs the 'real' URL using the prodindex and redirects to it.
