Shopping ChannelFollowing on from last weeks feature on CSV & XML Datafeeds, we continue this three part feature with a look at the Shopping Channel available through Affiliate Window.
What is this 'Shopping Channel'?
The Shopping Channel software feature has been available on Affiliate Window since May, under the name 'IPS'. We have renamed and rebranded this system as 'Shopping Channel' as part of our new content delivery suite, known as '
ShopWindow'
ShopWindow is a suite of tools and features available to affiliates to delivier
up-to-date information about merchants products to their visitors. ShopWindow is available to affiliates for free, and is completely customisable and unique to Affiliate Window. Over the last year Affiliate Window has been building a database of merchant product information, kept up to date direct from the merchants website, and we currently have over
700,000 products from over 100 merchants.This data is made available to affiliates through three services:
- ShopWindow DataFeeds
- ShopWindow Shopping Channel
- ShopWindow Content Units
Last week I talked about the DataFeeds, and the addition of CSV files. This week I'm covering the Shopping Channel, and next week, we are releasing an exciting new feature for you which completes the trio of ShopWindow products- affiliate generated Content Units.
How does the ShopWindow Shopping Channel work?
The Shopping Channel is a webservice similar to Amazon's AWS. It is used to display a full shopping channel to your visitors, allowing them to search or browse through the product data and choose what they want to buy, and each purchase they make earns you commission. Adding new merchants to yoru site becomes as easy as joining them.

It works through a technology called SOAP, which is a way of communicating in XML. In order to use it however, you do not need any experience in programming or XML/SOAP. We provide all the software you need. This works on most commercial webservers and does all of the communication between your webpage and our servers for you - you just customise the look and feel of the output and integrate the results into your page.
We will have more and more information on the website about ShopWindow over the next week, along with information about how to go about using all the available tools for showing the merchant product data.
