PC World Nintendo Wii Commission Update
Hi,
Following their request to affiliates to stop promoting the Nintendo Wii (and any bundles that contain it) on Wednesday 21st November, PC World have announced that they are no longer able to pay commission on Nintendo Wii hardware sales. This change does not affect Wii games or accessories. All other consoles are also unaffected.
This commission change will come into effect from Tuesday 27th November. Cookied sales where the click date is prior to the first announcement on 21st November will be honoured, as PC World recognise the hard work by affiliates in driving traffic to their website in previous weeks.
PC World would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to affiliates. Should you have any queries please contact Anthony Clements on 020 8269 4846 or email: aclements@affiliatewindow.com
Kind Regards
David Attenborough

Dear me, what is this about? Do Wii retailers see all the the other retailers cutting commission on the Wii and say "hey that's really pi**ing affiliates off why don't we do the same?"
Honestly, who is going to step up to the plate and NOT cut commission on the Wii? Or any consoles for that matter. There is a huge opportunity for some massive PR and goodwill here. Who's going to take it?ContentNow.co.uk - Content Writing and Link Building services | Read my blog here | Follow me on Twitter

It's a shame because I've got small online retailers contacting me everyday desperate for me to push their Wii consoles. The problem is they don't have affiliate programmes and aren't likely to get a programme in place before Xmas. I don't like dealing direct either, I've done this in the past and the lack of sales visibility worries me.

Don't these retailers realise that the bad taste this leaves will linger long after the Wii has been & gone?
It makes me doubt if I want to work with these retailers on other products let alone consoles!

Funky - I agree. I'm going to re-evaluate everything after Christmas. Maybe some of these sites feel they don't need affiliate support anymore, what with zero or very low commissions.

Indeed, and I wonder if any of these cheapskate merchants have stopped to put themselves in the position of affiliates who are deciding who to push Wii (or any console) traffic to next year?
Amazon don't (ever) do this sort of thing. They do tell you if it's out of stock and whether, if you order it now You will get it before Christmas.
Hmm, should I build pages around Cheapskate1, Cheapskate2, Cheapskate3 or Amazon?
That's won't be a tough decision for this affiliate.

I just don't think that merchants have thought this one through - I've already decided who I am and who I am not going to promote after these stock issues have died down.
On a good day, with unlimited stock available, I was selling in excess of 50 consoles a day across various retailers. (so approx 1500 consoles a month). I also know that my sales are probably a fraction of what the bigger sites were selling (wii-consoles .co .uk, etc for instance).
In the run up to Christmas, I wonder how many Wii consoles Dixons will sell (a few thousand?) Yes, all great for them - sell out within minutes, no commission to be paid. Merry Christmas!!
But after Christmas, when the stock issues are sorted, I wonder how many they are going to sell. Presumably they will be making a big announcement that they will now start paying on consoles again - they want our help again.
Now, will the extra income they make this Christmas cover the lost sales they will lose from p***ing off affiliates who will no longer wish to promote them. I don't think so and their short-sighted strategy will back-fire. They will just lose out to Amazon.

I've just noticed that PC World are paying 0% on Wii Software as well as Wii Hardware!
Is this intentional as the original announcement only mentioned Hardware?

I hope not. Didn't the DSG group just run an audit of accidental.mis-categorised 0% items? If they have missed Wii software, then have other things been missed as well? What about wii peripeherals?
In fact form the first message in this thread:
This change does not affect Wii games or accessoriesSteve

Yes I'd like to know about Wii software commissions or I shall remove that category from the datafeed with a click and add a separate section from a paying merchant.

*bump*
Still waiting for someone at AW to pick this up. Can someone from the account management team at least acknowledge that this is being looked into?
