This isn't particularly to do with v4 as such, but wasn't sure where else to put it.

I don't think its unreasonable to say the actual seo forum is dead at the moment - almost no new posts and the ones which pop aup are more often than not wrongly placed link requests.

    Right now you have:

    • Search engine strategies
    • Link building strategies
    • Link exchange requests
    • Google SEO
    • Paid search and adwords
    • Microsoft Advertising & Yahoo! Search Marketing

I'm not saying it'll fix all of the issues in that forum (and there are many), but why not cut the forums down? Having deserted sub forums just further discourages people as they think they're not likely to get a reply.

"search engine strategies" and "Google SEO" are bordering on being exactly the same thing. Outside of a few very small points, what works in one search engine works in another. They could easily be merged.

I'd merge "link building strategies" with the above 2 also - link building is 99% of seo. Maybe if you were getting 40 new threads a day keep it separate, but obviously not the case just now so makes sense to put it all in one forum.

Then merge the 2 paid search forums. Realistically you only need 3 - one for natural seo, one for ppc related stuff, and a "link exchange" to keep all that nonsense out of the "real" seo forums...

Then it needs someone to sort all the spam and garbage. I think its the worst forum on a4u for absolute nonsense posted to get a backlink... I'm not interested myself so this isn't a job application but really it needs someone who can clear all that garbage out.

If it was a good place for people to discuss seo etc, I would be willing to spent some time answering reasonable threads. As an ex seo company owner it wouldn't be hard for me. Right now there is just no incentive because the forum is a toilet and I don't feel like posting in it while nobody cares what happens there..

It would be good if it could be turned into a nice little forum where people could have serious discussions, not an endless flow of beginner questions, spam and outright nonsense.

Can't agree more Johnny, I suggested before breaking 'link exchanges' into sectors to keep it tidy and more organised but never got a reply...

I totally agree with Mr Cash's wise words - there's nothing worse than having loads of barren forum categories - much better to merge a few and if by chance they start getting top heavy after a period of time they could always be split again.

Great thanks, good to see feedback being taken on board. I'll definitely be checking in to see if I can help anyone who's making threads.
