Hello All,
As October is tyre safety month and this being the first time ever that the campaign is backed by the Highways Agency, we thought we’d share a few tips with you to ensure your tyres are road worthy and you are safe on the road.
Checking that the tyres on your car are in good condition and legal is simple!! We are all likely to find a 20p coin in our pockets; it’s time to put it to good use!! Checking your tyre depth is easy, simply insert the coin into the main grooves – if the rim of the coin is covered by the tread, the tyre has enough tread to be safe and legal.
Apart from checking the tyre depth you should also check that the tyres have the correct pressure and that these are in good condition. Inspecting tyres for cuts, slashes, and other irregularities are the most important things you can do to avoid tyre failure and can help you save fuel.
Taking these simple steps mean you can avoid accidents, fines and penalty points. The law requires a minimum of 1.6mm of tread across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its entire circumference.
Tyre wear leads to a loss of grip. The more worn your tyres are (indicated by shallower grooves), the longer braking distances will be, especially on wet roads. The risk of aquaplaning will also be greater.
With winter approching, now is the time to start promoting Pneus Online. To join the program log in to your Affilinet account and apply.
