Dear Affiliates,
Price rise alert: British Gas has announced today that its standard gas and electricity customers will see a 7% increase in gas prices (£53) and a 7% increase in electricity prices (£29) from 10th December 2010.
The increase will affect around 8 million customers and will add an extra £82 on to the average annual standard dual fuel bill, which will increase from £1,157 to £1,239 as a result [1].
The move follows SSE’s gas price rise of 9.4% or £67 which comes into effect from 1st December. With British Gas now following suit, further increases in energy prices now looks firmly on the cards.
What does this mean for affiliates?
• Great earning potential as customers rush to switch their energy provider to beat the price rise
• 50% increase in commission for each switch generated until 5th December 2010 (£18 versus the usual £12)
• Opportunity to capitalise on the peak in traffic due to the extensive coverage on TV and in the press
• Increased conversion due to special offers such as a £100 welcome bonus with EDF Energy until 30th November 2010
Beat expensive energy bills – switch and use less
Ann Robinson, uSwitch’s Director of Consumer Policy offers this advice if you’re worried about rising energy costs.
‘There are two key steps to keeping a lid on your energy bills
– use less energy by making your home more energy efficient and
– move to a competitive energy plan so that you pay less for the energy you do use.
The difference between the cheapest online energy plan in the market and the most expensive standard plan is £422 [2] – this is a substantial saving and could make a real difference for those who are worried or struggling with bills.’
1. Centrica announcement issued 12/11/2010
2. Most expensive energy plan is ScottishPower’s standard plan pay on receipt of bill at £1,305 a year. Cheapest energy plan is first:utility’s online plan iSave V5 at £883 a year. Difference between the two plans is £422.
