It is near impossible if you don't have the right contact in oz for a .com.au domain name, however what about a .com with an aussie or an oz in the domain name somewhere hosted in Australia - there are a few good companies out there?

There are ridiculous domains still available here too.

For affiliate PPC stuff, just do www.widgets-au.com and that should be alright if you're just dipping your toe in the water.

The above advice re: companies etc is all sage advice though - Melbourne IT do charge a bomb for domains though.

.com's show up in the Australian SERP's if you don't want to go through the hassle of setting up a foreign entity here.

SEO the .com to target Australia and you'll be right.

I have a friend, also an Australian, who only registers .coms and he does alright targeting his websites for Australia.
