Using my (extraordinary) powers of deduction, this seems to be a similar idea to one raised by an Affiliate Window manager at the Darwin meeting last year.
Basically, the notion involved allowing merchants to 'Accredit' affiliates, who would then get a badge on their profile to say XXX merchant backs this affiliate. Metrics would be set up to show merchants the percentage of joined merchants who accredit each affiliate.
The discussion lasted meerly minutes before the idea was shelved due to:
A) It would become more difficult for new (and therefore unaccreddited) affiliates to get a foothold in the industry.
B) It was open to abuse as merchants may only ever accredit those affiliates who sent them Christmas presents. This would certainly close the door on bedroom affiliates trying to make ends meet in favour of massive corporations who (lets be honest) don't really need any more backslapping. Lest we forget the % of the industry income generated from small affiliates
I seem to remember the discussion ending with the Manager saying "Not such a good idea then, let's move on"
I hope my powers of deduction do fail me this time and I've got the wrong end of the stick. If I do have a firm grasp of the proposal, I hope the Manager will be attending the forthcoming meeting with a clear memory of the room full of affiliates and their response to the idea.
If the proposal is for Networks to Accredit affiliates, I feel there is an even bigger danger to the size of the industry.
If the propsal is for the IAB to do the accrediting, well, anyone who isnt a large corporation and/or doesn't live in London might as well get down the Jobcentre now.
Please, feel free to put me right. The only information I can find consists of the words "Affiliate" and "Accreditation"
