This thread points out a site that offers free delivery that doesn't exist in order to get a cookie click.

This misinformation is wrong. It is bad for the shops, bad for the consumer and annoys affiliates who do work hard to get things right.

    Is this against the rules?

There is currently one 'ethical' code site that says something like:
Retailers sometimes keep their offers running without telling us - so try the codes below just in case (all click to reveal, of course). I dare say this is within these so called rules of which you speak?

If your example was stamped out (which it won't be) then they'll just use some other method. At the end of the day, so long as merchants are willing to pay out needless commission then it will just continue.

Just to keep the record straight, the free shipping offer was shown to be for our site, there has never, ever been such an offer and any suggestion of such is pure invention, guess what, you don't see any code or offer until you click through to the site and get a cookie!! and then there is no offer.
The only Free Delivery offers we have are for two very popular ranges, Handbag Hooks and SillyBandz and these are available to all automatically.
Needless to say the affiliate in question is no longer on the program.

It was removed as soon as it was brought to our attention. As are any other corrections.

We've made it clear to merchants, and networks that any issues are resolved as soon as we are made aware of them, and in some cases have handed over the control of the content on the store pages directly to merchants or networks.

We have 100's of discounts/deals/special offers coming into the system every day its unavoidable that there will be issues with some of them, we resolve any that are brought to our attention immediately and im sure alot of merchants would back me up on that.

We have no need to mislead our customers, all that would result in is the loss of a return visitor, and lower our conversion rates. And also why would we want to plant cookies for a company that does not work with VC sites? Think about it, even if it generated a sale it would be rejected.

    Thankyou.
