Helen, perhaps it just needs pushing more to the industry. As I say if everyone has a registered vote on key decisions it may engage people more. Some sort of membership of a respected internet body (with downloadable logos to display on member's sites!) may also be beneficial to affiliates when forming relationships with merchants.
At the moment to most affiliates it is perceived as a toothless body which cannot be relied on to move swiftly enough in the online space to stop malpractice.

Hi,
This from the blog:
Your AMC contact details | IAB AMC
I'd echo Helen's comments, I received so few comments or suggestions from people outside the Council during my year as Chair.
It's a little bit of a chicken and egg situation - if people don't engage it will always be seen as a body that represents certain people or groups. The AMC represents the whole industry, it will only be as powerful as that industry's engagement with it.
The blog has been live for the best part of a year now and other communication channels (Twitter, email updates) ramped up. There is also a designated place on the forum for everything IAB. All information (minutes, agendas etc.) is stored there or on the AMC blog.

Having finished judging a4uawards this year I kind of feel that the gulf between what we do in AM versus what some of the big guys do (econversions, found, quidco etc) is now mammoth - no bigger than that.I received so few comments or suggestions from people outside the Council during my year as Chair.
It makes me feel that the things that effect our presence in AM (at least the retail/network side of things) are probably irrelevant or at best not that important.
Not a criticism btw - that's how things are - but it may explain why others don't venture forth (and if not, it explains why I find it safer on the back benches so to speak).
To me it's all become a bit too over dauntingly big.

Agreed.
I think it's clear that it's not that people don't have things to air or feedback on - it's just many haven't really understood how to raise them until very recently. The addition to the forum has been a good step, and I've noticed the a4u newsletters now seem to feature the subject more as a result which is good progress as every bit helps. - And people are using this part of the forum to raise things - so things are changing already for the better. Whether people like what is raised is another issue entirely.
However, so far my impression has been it has relied somewhat on the assumption that people know about it and understand it - but I think a priority still needs to be to raise further awareness of it and clarify things in a better way. - ie, What the forum doesn't have, which may help - is a sticky explaining the IAB and the AMC then with links added to this sticky to the relevant external web pages so people can click through for further ino on upcoming or past agenda's, minutes, the ASA remit etc etc. It could also have some FAQ's - ie who/how to contact for what matters, details of what twitter account to follow for updates etc etc. - How to register interest in joining, or receiving the newsletters or giving support to a sub committee. It could also outline some basics on what the IAB cannot do. and details of who to contact at which network for further information even. In this post alone kevin and others have provided links to things I had no awareness of. Rather than this infomation being buried in this long post it could be listed, clearly in a sticky so anyone can get a quick snapshot or clickthrough for further detail.
However, not all affiliates and merchants use this forum, so perhaps the networks could do more to raise awareness about the IAB and AMC meetings in their own communications with affiliates and merchants too?
Just some thoughts.
All the best,
Kim

'How do you know what "most affiliates" think? '
True, point taken, I should have stated IMO after that statement.
I have been in the industry for a few years now though so can speak from a degree of experience.

Hi
We're thinking about for the next AMC meeting to tie it in with some networking drinks, like has been organised in the past. If we can get this going then perhaps we can present before this what the council is about, agenda for 2011, members etc. and encourage as many people as possible to attend and communicate outwards.
Thoughts?

If you have a presentation that others can pass on then that might work. - Maybe you could get it put on a memory stick so people can take easily take it away or something?
Unfortunately, I cannot make the next meeting as I have other plans so I will miss out.
All the presentations are hosted on the blog - usually within the posts featuring the minutes.
