I hasten to add Im not doing that yet. In a lot fo cases I get feeds direct from the merchant so am free to switch networks as I please (firebox being an example in this thread!).

I didnt even know buyat has a feeds system. Is there a URL or ftp place I can download them from or can you ftp to my sites?

I have to say Im very unlucky with buyat - dont seem to be able to make much at all, not that there are really that many merchants there that fit with my sites though.

This thread is not going to stamp out parasiteware.

Dragging the networks kicking and screaming towards doing the right thing either for commercial or ethical reasons will not make a dent in parasiteware earnings.

Parasiteware earns greater revenue from porn and worse. The merchants and networks paying the most do not give a toss about public opinion.

What would make a difference is a spyware/virus killer and system repairer that is affiliate-friendly with a program providing a revenue stream for affiliates globally.

A spyware/virus killer that does not block ads promoted from every page by every affiliate worldwide because it benefits them and earns affiliate revenue.

The team that pulls that together might be the next UK internet billionaires.

    I don't think you understand.

We are against them, and will push for their removal because they affect our earnings in our markets in our back yards. If they make more money from the porn programmes then thats fine as they can move all of the business into that and leave the non-adult stuff to the rest of it.

I suppose I make 10% of my earnings from adult stuff and only 50% of that from video's, subscriptions etc, the other 50% being network-based sex toy progs. So getting rid of spyware from 95% of my target audience is no bad thing.

Many people think us affiliates are against them per se, yes, but our main concerns are our income first, and their income second.

    Thanks for the enlightenment.

The point is that parasiteware is the one and only serious threat to affiliate income.

Banning parasiteware from every mainstream network will not change anything.

The parasiteware has to be removed from the users machines.

A combination software tool backed by a team continually developing fixes for parasiteware installs will probably be the next big thing.

This would surely be the most popular affiliate program on the planet.

    Wardy,

Any chance of you updating your original post to include those merchants that have acted independently of their networks and rejected 180 Sols (see Helen's post - Wheel partnerships update)

Hi no offence meant here Ian but that kind of info is maybe for another thread as the thread this for support of networks and a merchants stance in this thread is not neccassary as if people continue to promote merchants through said network as that merchant personally does not use spyware then the network earns overide off the back of that affiliate hence you would still be supporting the network even though they have not declared an official stance on 180 -

    Malcolm,

You are of course right, we should be pushing the affiliate friendly networks over the others. However, where there is no cross-over with merchants on a 'friendly' network, I think there is a case for separately listing those merchants that have taken the independent action of removing the parasites from their programs.

Yes the network will be getting the override, but the important thing is that 180Sols will not be earning anything from those merchants. The more top-quality merchants we can persuade to remove them, the less their income will be from the networks, the less viable their business model will be and the less sway they will have with the networks.

Perhaps these merchants should also be talking to their networks to pressure them into changing their stance.

Surely 180 solutions will still be able to make money off any merchant that is available on a non-ethical network.

So lets say Merchant A is in the lingerie business and wants some traffic. They use 180 solutions through DGM say. The fact that all affiliates promote merchant A through AW doesnt mean that 180 solutions wont be nicking their traffic does it?

Also affilaiets promoting any lingerie merchant on any network will surely also be under threat.

So surely going after the merchants is a good thing, unless you can get all the networks to be ethical.

Communication between merchants and networks - stating reasons for them dropping 180 types can only be a good thing.

It will increase pressure on networks to drop them too I think.
