One of the most endearing signs of Spring must surely be the sight of lambs gambolling about in the fields! On Sunday March 7th at 8pm, BBC Two will be showing LambingLive, the first of 5 shows following the excitement and drama of the lambing season.

    Sheep Facts!
There are over 1 billion sheep worldwide. The greatest numbers are farmed in Asia and Africa and are kept for meat, lamb and mutton, and for milk. Lambs are very independent at birth and form strong bonds with their mothers, recognising each other by their bleats. Older sheep are surprisingly intelligent, able to recognise and remember up to 50 sheep faces and those of familiar humans.

Fortunately, most farmed sheep are kept outdoors in extensive systems, with less than 1% kept in intensive systems. However, Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) campaigns tirelessely to improve welfare standards and they are asking for your support to help attract new donors to their charity - and that's where you come in!

Pick up banners, images and more information about CIWF's animal welfare campaigns by logging into your Affiliate Future account (programme ID 2810). You'll earn £1.00 commission for every customer who registers their full details on the website. Please note that customers must provide a valid telephone number, be aged over 18 and a UK resident. No incentive or cashback sites please.

Our first lamb came on January the 4th like 'elvis' on Beavans farm on lambing live - we had to call our second one on the 4th Elvis cos first born was a girl!! I wonder how many lambs are named elvis throughout the country?

We've got 37 healthy lambs so far with 27 proud mums!!
They do recognise each other even if they havnt seen each other for months and some have some great characters (some annoying too, like bloody adventurers and the high jumpers!)

Ahhh, would love to see some pictures Barry!
Hope all 27 proud ewes, 37 lambs (and all those born on the farm since then!) are doing well!

I was really suprised when CIWF told me that sheep can remember up to 50 faces...I guess they don't all look alike!
