And the dumbest merchant award goes to .....

Argos

I can't stop laughing. I just tried to order a talking doll for my daughters second birthday.

www.argos.co.uk/webapp/co...nbr=379790

The item showed as available and the order for the doll and the batteries it needed processed fine.

An hour later I received an email confirmation of my order explaining that they actually didn't have the doll so they were canceling that part of the order but that they had the batteries so they would be shipping them.

Total cost of the batteries £2.99 + £3.95 shipping.

It was impossible to disguise the sarcasm in my reply.

This gets better.

A delivery guy has just arrived with a large argos bag containing a small pack of batteries.

They didn't even act on my email.

At least my $0.12 commission on the battery sale did track with CJ (I assume it will reverse now) so the whole exercise wasn't a total waste.

I used a home page link however which I believe do work ok - I still beleive that deep links are problematic.

There is DEFINITELY a problem with deep linking using DIY links.

After approx 7,000 clicks on DIY deep links (Created using the official method that is supposedly supported by Argos), I had no sales from those links.

After changing some of them to links to the Argos home page, I've had 11 sales from approx 1,000 visitors.

Still far too low for a merchant like Argos, so I suspect there may be other problems with their site.

The thing that amazes me though is that Argos have an EPC which is similar to Littlewoods Index, despite their lower commission rate, which suggests that Argos have a better conversion rate. In my experience Littlewoods is much better.

Have you been on to Tina about it
I have but progress is slow
I've removed most of my links now anyway as it was such as waste of traffic.
