Ebay UK - who do they think they are to dicatate that ?

Dear eBay UK Affiliates:

eBay UK would like to ask, if you are involved in any pay-per-click advertising, that you stop purchasing and/or using any of the following keywords, phrases, or derivations thereof immediately. If you are buying any of the keywords below, please continue reading this email.

• "Great big bid" - maybe this is ebays trademark not sure on this one
• "Children in need" - you dont own it ebay so no
• "Pudsey" - again you dont own it ebay so no as well

Please add each of the above terms to the Negative Match Suppression List within your Google AdWords account immediately. They must also be added to the negative match suppression list for every other paid search advertising campaign you may be running in connection with the eBay UK Affiliate Program.

There are also changes you must make with respect to your ad copy. It is important that no ad copy include any of the keywords above in the:

a) Title of the advertisement, b) display URL, or c) body of the advertisement.

Publishers who disregard this request will be in violation of the eBay UK Supplemental Terms & Conditions as well as the Publisher Service Agreement. Violations of these agreements may result in possible termination from the eBay UK program.

I think its fair. eBay are donating all fees for Great Big Bid auctions to CIN so I don't think its really fair for affiliates to expect to get paid. They are also donating their fees in an equal proportion to people that auction stuff in aid of CIN. i.e. if you auction something and say you will donate 40% to CIN ebay will make a donation equal to 40% of your fees.

The number one result for all three terms is already highly relevant so what would anyone be adding by promoting on those terms?

Ok, having to add the terms to the negative list is an extra job, but ebay are your customer and if you want to supply them you need to match their requirements.

Children in Need and Pudsey Bear (not just Pudsey) are registered marks of The BBC. Great Big Bid isn't a trademark.

As eBay is working with The BBC for this charity event I think it's a fair enough request.
