I run all my sites from a dedicated FH server - Not had any problems at all, would highly recommend.

You get full remote ROOT access, and can also reset the server remotely if you really screw up.

FASTHOSTS DEDICATED SERVER OFFER – Monthly Accounts have a 12 month contract No Cooling off period, beware!

Hi All,

Just wanted to let all you potential Fasthosts Dedicated Server clients know what a bunch of rip off merchants they really are!

I asked my web designer to take my wife's site to the next level 118biker, he suggested to me that we purchase a dedicated server to deal with the 20000 visitors a month.

I was already with Fasthosts for the control of domains etc, so against the better judgment of the designer, we went with Fasthosts - "A monthly account with no extra costs they said"!!!

12 days down the line the web designer couldn't work with the Basic, Basic matrix Control Panel -

I tried to cancel the Fasthosts Dedicated Server by email first, even agreeing to lose the extortionate set up fee! Only to be told that in the small print, be it on a monthly account, there is a 12 month contract, with no cool down period!!!

With Fasthosts, Please, Please read the terms & conditions, Better still use someone else!

If this blog only stops 1 potential Fasthosts Dedicated Server, getting ripped off I will feel a whole lot better!

Most dedicated servers are accessible via remote desktop and you set up the sites via iis/apache conf - not sure why your designer would have problems with setting up the site, unless they don't know how to manage a real web site server. The matrix cp is to knock up a quick site - it won't setup all the features and whistles/bells you need to run a site

I wouldn't put this to fault of fh - this is more down to an uneducated web user

I take your point, I think its vital that I explain in my shopping around, I contacted Fasthosts, and explained my circumstances, even quoting "Bells & Whistles. I explained I wasn't prepared to pay for "Extras" to which they replied "you wont need too"!

The control Panel is to say the least useless...... and if you don't mind me saying to pay over £780 for an dedicated server to use your expression "The matrix cp is to knock up a quick site" is fairly expensive!

But then i guess Fairly expensive is relative!

Sounds like you just need to install the latest updates and patches - with any unmanaged dedicated server you are expected to install these yourself as each customer has different requirements.

If your on windows dedicated server you should set up your sites with iis manager which is industry standard and allows you to administer your sites in a professional manner.
