This is out to any experienced landing page marketeers.

When making a niche landing page do you 'review' products or 'review' merchants selling that product?

Which do you find gets the most sales?

    Example: site is bluewidgets.com

On the landing page you have information about some bluewidgets with a deeplink to a merchant page selling that product.

Or do you have a list of the merchants that sell all types of bluewidgets with a 'review' of that merchant then a link to the merchant and the page with the bluewidgets on?

    Thanks

It really depends on which keywords you are targeting. If you are targeting the products, then it is a product review you need to do. If your keyword is 'buy bluewidget from merchant' then you should write about the merchant and their supply of the product.

In the first instance it's all about the product, whereas in the second, it's about the merchant and their stock of the product. If that makes sense.

    Yes that makes sense.

However my keywords are just the general product name - 'white washing machine'.

Someone types 'white washing machine' into google and they go to my site.

Do I have a list of white washing machines with info and picture and then a link to a merchant or do I have a page with information on the merchants who sell white washing machines with links that send the user to the merchants white washing machine page?

Or is there a better way I havent thought of?

Can I suggest you take a look at our Showcase page for ideas about these niche sites. We have quite a few there now, which can give you an inspiration for some of your projects. Perhaps the Condenser Tumble Dryers one is a good example of how to build on a single landing page to attract longtail keyword searches?

    Thanks for that.

I take it you work with ECU? Can I ask a question about it?

On the tumble dryer one there are the links to view products by price.

Is it possible to set up an ECU that only has products within a certain price range?

This is one of my sites I have done using ECU, you can use it for the show case if you want: Slow Cooker Reviews and Price Comparison Information Probaby should add some 'more info' buttons under the prices.

    Thanks.

When you set up an ECU, you are in control of what products are included, you can of course just select the products within your price bands.

Sort results by price will help you in this as will the duplicate unit feature where you can easily recreate the unit so you don't have to start the styling from scratch, just choose the products in the next price band.

Thanks for sharing your site, I will add it to the showcase page shortly!

Doh of course. Sorry I forgot abou that. I assumed it was generating the list on the fly rather than they have been preselected by the person making the ECU.

The best way is to test yourself. What works for one person doesn't for another.

Create a couple of landing pages with similar products but done differently and see which works best.

I have evolved over the last couple of years by trying different things.

I have been working with the products approach but am trying the merchant approach on another site but it isnt getting any tracking yet.

I find it hard to compare as there are so many variables between products, sites etc.

You can do it step by step, first of all you should get some common variables and then let them compare

    Branded USB Sticks
    DVD Replication
