    Hi,

Im having a bit of a problem

Basically i am trying to download the play.com feed, but its too large and my sql server keeps timing out. I only really want the kids and family dvd section, but the file is gzip compressed so i cant just open it in excel and find the category id. I went to gzip.org and tried to download the software to decompress the file, but thats a tar file which i cant open either!

Is there an easier way of finding out the merchant category ids? If not ill just settle for how to uncompress a gzip file so i can open it in excel.

    Many thanks

The Play feed is going to be massive to begin with Not sure how many products are the on DB at the moment but I presume it will be HUGE! Can you only ask for a specific type to be downloaded?

Its ok, i thought that afterwards and downloaded the normal zip file! :blush

Although i did find some really quick de compression software thats free called 7-Zip that works perfectly.

It is massive, but i still cant manage to get just the kids and family dvds as its just category ID for DVD, Books, CDs and not sub categories. So i guess i will have to settle for just the toys and gadgets.

    Hi Lian,

If you are affiliated to play.com with affiliate window, use their "AWin Create-a-Feed" and select only the categories you need.

If you are affiliated thru buy.at, look at this post : http://www.affiliates4u.com/forums/b...ownloader.html it will help you get only the categories you need.

I did try the create-a-feed, but the feed will only let you go 1 category deep ie DVD, CD or GAMES but not DVD - Children and family or horror etc. Its a kids comparison site so dont really want horror / action dvds etc. Its hard to filter them out using keywords too as mostly they are listed as just the titles and the video games on the play.com feed dont have any descriptions either.

Is this possible on the buy.at site?

    Thanks for your replies

I think it is, but I will try it this evening (I am at work right now) and tell you if it works.

    Hello all,

Unfortunately it is not possible at present to do this with the buy.at Play Film V2 feed as the categories are not specific enough to filter Children & Family DVDs.

We will follow this up with the agency and merchant to try and make this happen as we appreciate the importance of having good levels of categorisation.

However as an alternative the HMV feed can be filtered for only Children & Family DVDs. If you take your feed location URL and append:

    &LEVEL1[]=DVD&LEVEL2[]=Childrens

If you have any queries please send an email to reza.badel@platform-a.com or the Data Quality Manager here at buy.at simon.quick@platform-a.com

    Hi Lian-B

I believe Reza has answered your question on the categories.

I've attached a file to this post which gives details on how to integrate product feeds into your system - in Chapter 6 (Page 15) there is details on how to unzip a GZip file, hopefull this will answer your initial query.

    I hope that helps

    Regards
    Simon
