Having worked as a face-to-face fundraiser (yes, those annoying people on the streets) I would say it's wonderful to make some money while helping others worldwide.
However, being paid by the hour I was always against those who were paid on commission since I don't think people should ever be /pressured/ into giving but do it out of their own desire to help.
Infact I think a lot of the rants, swear words etc I got were a result of other fundraisers for other agencies having been too pushy in the past.
What I did find worked exceptionally well though was not to talk about the problems, no guilt tripping - everyone knows we live in an exceptionally cruel and inequal world - but instead to focus on the fantastic work that particular charity is doing to improve the situation. If you can inspire your viewer with tales of how WV or whoever is making the situation better, with examples of the affect on the lives of individual people, your enthusiasm about the organisation becomes infectious.
It's horrible when on the streets to feel you've depressed someone with your approach, especially when they leave without signing up esp. when they're on the dole or similar.
However using this method I'd have people /thanking/ me for giving them the opportunity to get involved and help with such valid work.
Do your research on World Vision - I can't share any stories about them having not worked for them - I assure you it will be worth your time.
