I have just logged into to DGM and found a pending comet sale for 05-Sep-03. Has anyone else found this? This is very strange to say the least although my commission is below the expected comet average £0.00.

Its bad enough trying to locate stray DGM comet links on my sites which are still generating click thru's, and knowing the people who click on an old DGM Comet link are basically high jacked by DGM and given a choice of alternative shops. I have never been impressed with DGM doing this they are aware affiliates put a lot of work into getting traffic and they basically attempt to rob us of commission. Comet left their network the affiliates stayed. Where is DGM's loyalty to the affiliates who make them their money.

When someone clicks on an old comet link they get the message:

"The reason you have arrived on this page is due to the fact that you have clicked through an affiliate link to a terminated program.

The Comet program has now closed, however we can offer you a number of other electrical retailers you may be interested in ..."

Then they are offered a choice of other 6 other electrical shops.
Why don't they offer visitors the option to go back to the site they came from or credit us if a sale is generated fromthe alternative links.

Saying this I do not generate that many dgm comet click thrus these days but i am still generating a few from some far flung corners of my sites which i am yet to find and i am sure many other people are also.

I would guess the same will happen with tote the latest merchant to bail out on dgm. While i am on the subject of merchants bailling out on dgm is Boystuff about to bail. Personnally i will be switching my links for them to CJ.

Come on DGM a little loyallty please as we put a lot of effort and money into sending you traffic.

    Will

If you look a little harder you will see that it's your Affiliate ID's that show on this page, so if anyone buys anything from any of these merchants it is you that gets the full commission. If you affiliate ID's are not showing then it's because you have not joined all the programs (so go join all of them now).

I think this is a great advance by DGM, as sometimes stray links do get left. It's been up for months now and I wonder just how many people have made sales and don't even know about them, if you check your Tracking ID's if you have them turned on, you will see that the splash page has it's own ID so you can tell.

If I were DGM I would be less than impressed with the amount of research or effort people put in to some of the posts of late. Did you even contact DGM about this? I know you didn't, otherwise you would know the real answer that DGM have done this not to rob affiliates but to make sure that opportunities like this to make a little extra are not missed.

I HAVE JOINED ALL OF THE MERCHANTS ON THIS PAGE AND HAVE BEEN A MEMBER OF ALL THE MERCHANTS WHICH APPEAR ON THE PAGE FOR A LONG TIME NOW! I DO NOT POST WITHOUT THINKING. I POST THE FACTS.

This is how all the links appear on the page show me where my ID is then:

    http://www.dgm2.com/m/appliances/b.a...Goes%20Here%5D

    http://www.dgm2.com/m/bennetts/b.asp...Goes%20Here%5D

    http://www.dgm2.com/m/edworthys/b.as...Goes%20Here%5D

    http://www.dgm2.com/m/maplin/b.asp?A...Goes%20Here%5D

    http://www.dgm2.com/m/micro/b.asp?A=...Goes%20Here%5D

    http://www.dgm2.com/m/tradeappliance...Goes%20Here%5D

I may not have the knowledge that you have but I cannot see my id in any of these links can you!

They where copied exactly how they appear on the page

Can you PM me your affiliate link that you have for Comet and I can take a look, if it's not working I will call Tony myself and let him know as I can tell you for sure they are not trying to rob affiliates, it must simply be a database error or some other reason as to why your Affiliate ID is not showing on this page.

Thank you Mogga. I was even doubting myself.

Yes it is the standard DGM link

Obviously "DGMs GREAT ADVANCE" has not advanced as far as my links.

Supercod - I also noticed one of my old comet links went to standard not-mine links.
Can't find one at the moment - so hopefully I've tracked them all down)

Yes it is my fault for not changing them all over - but I had some i-frame things which were invisible to me in DW.

I can't find an old link to test this yet, in the past it has always worked with affiliate ID in place. If it's not any more DGM need to know and they will fix it. But still wrong to say they are robbing people if it's not working due to a mistake being made some where along the line.

My DGM/Comet click thrus are very few these days, but at no time did they ever link to any dgm page with alternative links with my id in them. It is the first I have ever heard that the splash page with the alternative links should contain my link id so i was not aware a mistake was being made somewhere along the line. Was everyone else aware of this and it was just me that did'nt know.

I do not recall ever being informed by DGM that old comet links would go to a splash page with alternative links containing my id. If they had done this it certainly would have taken some of the pressure off to locate all comets links when they left DGM.

So is this also going to be the case for tote when they leave are their links going to go to a splash page with links containing your id. If so would'nt it be helpful if DGM let us know this therefore easing the pressure to locate and remove their links.

Yes it is my responsibility to remove/change any links and yes maybe my comment about my traffic being hijacked and being robbed is a little harsh but you must agree as my traffic went to a page offering alternatives from which i would not be accredited for you must see how i feel this way.

I am quite capable of contacting DGM myself now that i am aware that my comet links should link to a splash page with alternative links containing my ID thanks anyway. And Supercod I am not here to impress DGM or anyone else.

Out of interest how many of you have now or have had comet links going to a page with links containing the standard dgm link id and have joined all the merchants which appear on the splash page.

I routinely join all new merchants now. I used to be fussy. Not any more.
Its easier to just fly in and get links if you're all signed up.

Hi Will, first off ok I was may be an bit on the harsh side of replying. I been reading this board and taking part for ages and I know from talking to many networks that they think a few people are just happy to post negative stuff, and the staff read this every day and many of them take it to heart that for some reason affiliates hate them when that of course is not true. But some people have in the past been very unreasonable in posting stuff. I wouldn't like any unfair comment to be posted about any network so I tend to defend them, maybe get a little bit too involved sometimes LOL

I wanted to do a bit more investigating into this, but been really busy. Will have a look later when I get a spare moment, I already got 2 links that I am not happy with the outcome of.

By the way I should add the reason I know so much about the splash pages is because I have talked about them in the past with Tony (great guy, more networks need someone like him) LOL.

    Me From 12/06/03

Hi Tony, like the new splash pages however the Comet one has not got all the correct affiliate ideas, Edworthy has your standard one I understand.
Anyway not that it matters to me as I will be updating my links but thought better tip you off before someone complains. Also be a great idea on the splash pages to have anyone that use Network IDs to have the Your Code Here changed to something like "Splash Page" if they didn't already send a default over, of course that not really important as getting the correct affiliate ID's in place.
    And reply the same day

The page checks to see if you are signed upto the relevant merchant, if your not then it includes a default ID if your not attached to the merchant and a sale record get created it then causes problems with stats adding up at a later date.

we should fix that really, but due to the set up on the dbase it would be a bit of a nightmare, hence the current solution

Good idea on the network IDs
And later that same day I signed up to Edworthy and the whole page checked out 100% fine with all my Affiliate ID's in place and has been working fine ever since as far as I know But look like it's not working for a few merchants just now but I am sure they will look into and fix this pronto

I'd say it may be more than just a few merchants - just tried a Gizmo's link before I zapped it and sure enough it goes to a splash page with all the other gadget merchants on it (all of which I'm signed up with) - and each one has the default aff code.
