Hi, I just have a niggle that to me is annoying, it might have been mentioned before, it might be something I am doing wrong and if so anyone (but not everyone) is welcome to advise me.

As technology moves on it is fantastic to see that we are getting more options for banners, my slight niggle is that if you want to take the codes from the banners lets say 90 to 100, then as a box pops up to give you each code it then automatically returns to page 1, this means you are then repeating the process and for a popular banner there seems no shortcut.

My idea is simply could the page that you clicked for the banner code remain underneath instead of clicking back to page 1. This without doubt is not a complaint and I think that any company that gives us a choice of 94 banners to use deserves a pat on the back, this simply is about something that I think Jim could fix, or even dgm, and as I said it is just a niggle, which probably wouldnt matter with all affiliates anly those that have a lot of same sizes banners.

My only other idea would be for dgm to actually call the banner by the coded number, that way we wouldnt have to click through to even got the code (only new people) but we could simply use the 7 digit code from the banner title, which would save a great deal of time but it might not be viable for dgm for various reasons such as there time I suppose.

    Anyway thats it!!! thanks

    Hi like2stay,

Makes absolute sense, can see where you're coming from. It's the problem of not actually needing to use the affiliate interface very much that internally we tend to miss these little irksome usability issues.

I'll have it prioritised for development. Consider it done!

Simple as that. And if there are any other niggles, fire away. I'd rather have them out in the open and planned for fixing than not realise that there is an issue.

    Cheers

    Hi Gerry,

Not sure if you've noticed, but the release that fixed this issue went out the last week. I hope its what you wanted!

    Cheers

    Hi Ben

Many thanks for that and for keeping in touch.

I do have one other question that I have mentioned to Rob although in an email with other stuff, but I will mention it again as it has been while.

When we go on the banners page, lets say Warner for example, it has a click down selection box at the top with the choices of banners used and banners not used, however when you click on banners used it changes from 63 banners to 11, this means there are 52 banners that we cannot use, so wouldnt it make more sense to have the default as the banners we can use with the option of seeing the ones we can't if we wish to look, which really are just a storage area, which is annoying seeing sizes etc that we can't use.

I hope that makes reasonable sense, and on a total positive note I love the way that DGM do deeplinking numbers for us for individual pages, it is not until you start adding extensions for deeplinking that you realise how much of a benefit simply using numbers pre done for you can be, so thanks.

    Hi Gerry,

It’s not a problem, basic courtesy really!

I think that probably needs more explanation then. ‘Banners used’ and ‘Banners not used’ simply means that you can filter for banners that you have or haven’t already picked up from dgmPro. So if you are searching amongst 50 banners for new ones you haven’t seen yet, or trying to find the code for a banner you’ve already picked up, it makes it easier. So all of them are still available to you - are you having a problem?

I may make some text changes to explain that better…

Your query actually links to why the page was refreshing. You’ll notice that any banners you pick up will now have a Banner Name next to them (defaulted to ‘CLIENT_NAME AFFILIATE_ID’ if you don’t specify), and the page refresh that took you back to the beginning was there simply to rewrite the page so it displayed the new banner name. The banner pages are now paged in a way they weren’t when dgmPro was created, which is why we didn’t realise there was an issue with the page refresh.

Just to explain about why all this is, every time that you click the ‘Click here to view Banner Codes’ button for a particular creative, the system checks and if you haven’t already used it, it creates the Content Unit ID for that piece of creative and registers that against the tracking servers. If it’s new, you should see a warning on the banner popup saying ‘Important Note: This link you are picking up has just been created in our database – content unit 1234567 - and it can take a few minutes for it to start working across all our tracking servers. You may find during this period the link may not work and/or the banner may not display.’

We had a lot of trouble when dgmPro first launched because links would take several minutes to start working (longer in some cases as there were some teething troubles!) and affiliates would test the links they had just picked up and find they didn’t work. These days the delay is usually no more than 45 seconds (we have multiple tracking servers to populate your new creative onto) and so we warn you when that occurs.

The reason for it all is its an efficiency measure. We can’t create content units for every single affiliate on every single campaign on every single creative without quickly running into performance issues. But it does mean that unlike many networks, like you say we can pre-make several links to pages on a client’s site so you don’t have to deeplink.

And many thanks for the appreciation!

    Cheers

    Ben

    Hi Ben

Oh gosh I feel a bit of a plonker because it made sense once it was explained, indeed once i clicked on a banner then it made the database statement and then banners used went up from 11 to 12, oh that is fantastic, I genuinely always thought they couldnt be used and have always gone by that, oh gosh how silly I am.

Yes well indeed that sorts that out, Yes I do still have problems with the Haven & Warner Search banners but I spoke with Rob the other day and he says that the technical team is looking into that and hopefully that will not also be down to me or I shall dig a hole jump in and then fill it!!!!

Anyway again many thanks for all your time.

Thanks for peoples messages and help and I am glad I am not the only one easily confused by all this.

I have now got the Haven Search Banner online and have put it on a temporary page in the hope someone will say yes thats how it should be!!!

It is the first time that my webpage editor said there were bits wrong with the syntax? and then putting it online I guess I thought there would be more to it, especially as we get a choice of branded or unbranded, I guess I thought there would be the Haven name and colours etc (much like the Pontins one)

Anyway I have put the Haven banner on: Haven Search and the other available banner is on havensearch but they both look the same to me.

As for Warner well that was simpler, everything worked including colours etc but the line "offer code" has split into two lines, which is annoying because if I saw this on a website then I would actually question if this was a real banner because you wouldn't really expect a mistake like this from a big brand like Warner. It actually reminds me of some of the emails I get through supposedly from a bank where everything doesn't quite join together, if that makes sense !!!!

Anyway Thanks again and at least its getting sorted.

    Gerry
