It occured to me that is'nt it strange how on Networks like AW and DGM there are merchants that will reject the "bad" sales on a very regular, if not daily basis, but then will not confirm the "good" sales for weeks often months afterwards?

In my pea-sized brain it has always made sense that if you are to set up any processing system, that you set aside the time to do a job, and when the time comes to do that job, you do it thoroughly and completely, rather than having to skip backwards and forwards to it, doing a bit here and then a bit there.

Of course there is the explanation that some "sales" go bad sometimes weeks afterwards. But of course the answer to that would be deducting those later "bad" sales from later commissions.

You see, if I was to put my merchant hat back on, I would have to think very seriously that this was the perfect way of delaying meeting your financial obligations (e.g. paying your affiliates) as long as possible. After all if you don't approve the sale for 60 days, then it's another 30 - 60 days before you actually pay it. Not bad - delayed having to cough up for 4 months! I wonder if they can make that fly with BT or their electricity supply.

People don't actually do this, do they?

I'd guess that merchants can see a failed transaction immediately and therefore are in a position to immediately reverse it.

However they have to wait until say 14 days after delivery to ensure the product is not returned before they can validate a good sale.

I have no doubt that some merchants do delay validations until just after month end for cash flow reasons but there are also valid reasons too.

    Am I being too trusting?

it's gotta make you question some of the networks really hasn't it?? because to me it seems like terms of business are often heavily stacked in favour of the merchant with regards to validation and payment.

I've asked a couple of networks about this in the past - i really don't like it. It seems this isn't what's happening though. The networks sometimes delete obvious duplicates etc from merchants stats, i think this is the case with AWIN and pureprofile (but I don't know this).

I think this gives the mechant a bad image, as well as winding affiliates up.

I'd also rather know the merchant is responsible when a sale/lead is deleted. At least you know who to ask questions then.

We dont manage Pure Profiles account. They are responsible for all validations on thier account duplicate or not. Awin do not approve or decline any commissions fo r this merchant.

We do attempt to prevent duplicate commissions appearing in the first place, but these would not appear as pending commissions (and then rejected commissions) on your account.

    Thanks for adding that Marc.

Are you saying that on AWIN this doesn't happen for programs you don't manage, but can (does?) happen for merchants AWIN manages?

Can we have a list of programs managed by AWIN? Same thing for all networks would be handy.
