You can always rely on DGM to take one step forward then two steps back...

The new home page only works properly if you've got a resolution of at least 1280 characters across your screen - which only accounts for around 5% of web users.

Obviously that was a far more imprtant thing to do than fix the stats on the home page, which are still not working.

It is an unusual layout but 1280px probably accounts for at least 95% of web designers who use affiliate networks

I think that the fact that the 'home' page doesn't relay 'real' stats is probably a server load issue, I hanv't seen any further threads on it, but I imagine that it saves quite alot of load on their reporting server, by having a 'fixed' stats counter on the home page that isn't realtime.

Aside from the width, I think it look quite nice. Shame their are no new features to talk about.

Maybe that's why so many sites don't work properly for 'real world' surfers then.
Not all people who use DGM are web designers, and I'd be amazed if anywhere near 95% of DGM users will be able to use the new home page without scrolling across.

We've not all got 21" screens - I have a 17" monitor and anything over 1024 x 768 and the text becomes difficult to read.

One of the golden rules of web design is not to make people scroll sideways.

It's only recently that 1024x768 has overtaken 800x600 as the most popular resolution used by most surfers, and 800x600 still accounts for a sizeable proportion, so I design my sites to work with that resolution.

Of course if DGM paid me the balance for this month that is shown when I log in I'd be happy to spend it on a much bigger monitor. But unfortunately I know it's telling me I've earned around £1,600 more than I really have. It's been broken so long now I don't think they're interested in fixing it.

I didn't realise your counter was still stuck on the 'silly' amounts.

Mine was like that the other week, but now mine reads an account of what my stats were yesterday. I def agree that you have some kind of problem that needs fixing!

And yeah your probably right about the screen res. I would never design a site at that res either. Even though it would look ok on my monitor

I hate it when I have to scroll horizontally.

Interesting point: switched from DGM to another network for insurance and the number of conversions in general has increased. May be coincidence.

Have to say that the current screen layout is a definite step backwards - please guys - be cheeky - get yourself an account on affiliate window and look to see how they've done it - theirs works - yours doesnt - horizontal scrolling is such a basic no no I cant believe you've made it happen

Have they changed the flight path to Heathrow to pass over Highgate cos you may be listening but you clearly arent hearing what all of your affiliates are saying

There was nothing wrong with the layout (well nothing serious anyway) - its the content thats important - we used to have live reporting on the homepage, every other network has live reporting on the homepage - so why not give us .................................................. .......
    live reporting on the homepage.

Please please please can we have the homepage and stats on the agenda for the workshop next Friday - if you cant afford to hire half decent web designers who understand USABILITY I'm sure all of us there will chip in enough expertise to design you a decent layout in next to no time.

Sorry if the above seems a little harsh but given recent events I'm not in the mood to take prisoners................

I have to agree with you kbudden, there really wasn't a lot wrong with the previous layout. This one isn't a great deal different that I can see apart from not fitting on the screen.

Horizontal scrolling is a real no no if you can help it. Take a step back and re-instate the old screen layout please.

Is very bad that. I run a very large resolution but I never have windows opened max.

So even if you think looking at your stats that folks are running higher resolutions, there probs not because they dont have browser windows max.

Grooo.. that's awful. It was just fine before, there's really no need to go mucking about with it like that.

This machine is 1024x768 so it doesn't work, my other machine is 1280x1024 so it's fine.. however my LAPTOP is 800x600.

Let's find out. Who is it, and what network did you switch to?

Fixed screen sizes are a no-no at all.

Why either restrict someone's viewing (like when I look at a design fixed to 640 width in my 1280 width browser) or prevent people seeing everything (like when I try to view the new DGM site on my palmtop)

There is no such thing as designing for a "screen size". You have to accept that it's 320px width and upwards (or less if you take phones into account).

And if you fix the width at something ridiculous like 1280, you're kind of saying "we don't really know what we're doing" and then when you start to stack up the other evidence with DGM recently, you start to think that more and more, and then you start to wonder if a particular ship is sinking and whether, perhaps, it's time to get out.

    It doesn't bother me as I'm using 1280 ...

however I only ever see that page once a day normally. I log in in the morning and then use my bookmarked pendings page and have a glance at that. Then I navigate from there.

I've just noticed it says this on the DGM Bulletin board:

"The publisher homepage has been redesigned to help usability"

I think that just shows how much of a clue they've got.

Thanks for listening DGM. The homepage has been redesigned again and now fits on my screen with no sideways scrolling. I can be quite a harsh critic at times so credit where it's due for listening and making this change.

    With best wishes.
