    Hi guys,

The BBC >Click programme that is shown 6 times a week on BBC News 24 and BBC1 Breakfast has recently recommended one of our merchants, Mobyko, as a Best Website on the web. Written by presenter Kate Russell it gives a quick rundown on top sites from the Wild Wild Web and very much appreciated the service provided.

If you've wondered what Mobyko's all about it's a good summary and a nice recommendation for Mobyko's efforts.

    More details here:

If you're promoting them it's a nice bit of content. If you want to speak to someone about it, drop Kevin Sutton a line.

    Cheers

    Just seen this on MSE

Back up your mobile contacts for free. Plus store photos & videos online - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

Basically by using the code shown users can get a free premium account.

Now ok that's a PITA but a deal between MSE and Mobyko, but what really intrigues me is that at the bottom of the info... users are told about how they can get 100% cashback... was that part of the deal too?

Therefore is it ok for other affiliates to promote this offer - should I tell my users 'hey here's a free account offer, oh and by the way here's my affiliate link' - as the above is doing that albeit by proxy.

Mobyko want affiliates to push them... ok cool, but how the heck can any affiliate compete with (1) a free account promotion and (2) a free account promotion being pushed with 100% cashback.

Is this a good way to run a promotion? Is this a good way to run an affiliate program that is attractive for all affiliates to promote? Or is affiliate marketing becoming just something that's really only accessible to selected cashback sites?

    Hi Loquax,

It's a World Wide Web out there and we can't stop the likes of Money Saving Expert pushing the cashback option with their promo. That doesn't mean that everybody in the UK reads MSE (I certainly don't, though from this you make me think I should?) and as MSE aren't using affiliate links that surely is better than if they were?

From what I can see the community voucher code sites are going to pick up that offer code too, so I'll leave the question of how Mobyko feel about other affiliates pushing the same or a similar offer alongside content to Kev Sutton.

    Cheers

Dunno.. at least it's an exclusive deal between the two then... as is what was 'exclusive' becomes kinda hybrid.. and with so much going about affiliates using other's codes, this takes things to a different level.

I'm fully aware it's a worldwide web... that's why I look around and see what's on offer and whether a merchant is worth promoting. If their affiliate program offering is blown out the water by a.n.other (and then some) then my time is better spent not promoting them.

    Hi There Jason,

How are you? Well I hope!

Just wanted to come back on the below. Firstly the promotion has, as you suggest, been set up directly between the client and MSE. There was an incident recently whereby Mobyko issued a code in the Metro (London) offering a similar free premium pack. Someone posted this on to the MSE forum and they noticed it led to a number of leads coming through from loyalty sites.

As a result Mobyko spotted the pattern that developed and had their PR agency get in touch with MSE to see what the opportunity for some similar exposure would be if they went direct.

I am unsure of the arrangements or relationships between MSE and the loyalty sites, however their model overall is based on saving the consumer money and they tend to often promote cashback in their postings.

I think that it is fair enough that Mobyko has spotted the opportunity to get some increased exposure and took advantage of something that has worked well before.

If you feel that if given an exclusive voucher code you can push the programme and also give some increased exposure I will be happy to approach the client with your proposal. I have had a chat with them already and I am sure that they would be open to this.

As to the issue of voucher code "stealing". We hope to have something in place in our tracking for Mobyko, which will ensure that if a vouchercode is used it will appear in our reports and we will then approach the issues that arise with the client.

If you would like to get in touch my contact details are below.

    Many thanks,

    Kevin
