why not keep hold of them in case the iphone ever does go payg ?
would be worth more from both a commission & resale pov

Be careful of a domain containing a brand name, apple are hot on these things. I've just read on another forum that someone just got stung for £6,500.

yeah thats if they decide to trademark iphone though ..
although for an iphone you could argue it out if it ever went to court because i is short for internet and obviously the phone part..
and people were using the i and e suffice way before teh launch of iphone
so they wouldnt have a great deal of chance of getting the domains from you as it currrently stands.. just need to make sure they dont trademark it

ditch them !
Trade marks - find by number
apple have applied for a TM & if they decide to go after you .. oh boy lol
you could either get rid asap or contact apple and offer them the domains ( avoiding court fees etc if it came down to it )

If you had an iPhone related domain, its highly likely that you'll have iPhone info on there. The purpose of having iPhone info on there is to earn commission and thus you'd gain financially. All of which will lead Apple to not only go after the breach of trademark but also financial penalties .. probably!
Cyates - if someone has registered a domain but does use it, how does this stand up?

well as long as the owner isnt in a position of financial gain
or linking to a competitor then the company have to prove that the domain was registered with the intent of depriving the company of property
however ..
they can still have a case for a WIPO and can still possibly take the domain from you
in cases of trademarks though its always best to avoid..
for example.. & this is aimed at teh tread creator ..
if you have any affiliate programs running on the domains remove them asap !
a better way would be to point teh domains to apple directly as this is a sign of goodwill

i don't think apple are that interested in uk iphone domain names.. even iphone co uk hasn't been snatched back.. if they were that worried about tm infringement on the iphone brand they certainly would of gone for that name first... on the other hand i do know they take a very different stance on the apple TM.. iphone has a limited shelf life, it will be long forgotten in a couple of years..
thanks k.

unless you were doing something to really annoy them i seriously doubt legal action would be their approach. Just a DRP, you roll over and they then own the domain....

they cant snatch anything back yet because teh trademark hasnt gone through .. its only been examined.. if its accepted will go through in 3 - 5 weeks .. only then will we be able to see their stance on uk iphone domains

but i'll be keeping an eye out anyway
i notice they havent trademarked ibook .. probably because of teh reason i gave earlier about i & e

Surely you could argue that "i" and "phone" are both generic terms anyway but I suppose if you were using the site to advertise the iPhone that's when you could become unstuck with that argument!

If it makes you feel any better, I helped to set up a few UK Apple dealerships....and to say they are a company that dots the i's and cross the t's is an understatement. They even had their own specialist carpet supplier, which turned out to be not that special just 10 times the price of other suppliers for the same carpet.... but you couldn't open your official dealership without buying from that supplier.
My point basically is don't touch Apple with a bargepole if there is any possible legal problems as they will follow it up.

There was a discussion regarding this on DNForum (I think it was) before iPhone was launched in the US and someone pointed out that "iPhones" was a term widely in use already to abbreviate "Internet Phones". Not sure if that has much effect on TM and litigation, but it might be of some relevance in a dispute. I regged cheapiphones.co.uk and the hyphenated derivative a while back but am in 2 minds as to whether to develop them as its clearly a grey area.
If Apple were planning action it would make far more sense for them to wait and see which sites became high profile - it would save them costs and also potentially mean they could take a site where a lot of the hard marketing work has already been done. That's what I'd do anyway
