mmm - what do I think about this? Why do I feel as though I'm being held to ransom and vaguely threatened?
Lee Owen, formerly an active member of A4U, contacted Childrens Rooms offering this domain for sale yesterday, I replied and offered £100, which wasn't accepted and wished him good luck with the sale.
Does Lee work for Jess Luthi now?
We're going through a massive change at Childrens Rooms, having recently split from our partners, moved premises and knee deep in training staff and new Christmas Stock - besides still trying to get the new version of Allkids up and running and updating all my toy pages - so no time to breathe let alone worry about similar domains and repercussions - was I wrong?
What I didn't expect was that it would be offered for sale on here by Affiliate Program Advice - who obviously know that I'm an over-active member here - seems somewhat shabby to me and not what I would have expected from that company.
Am I being over anxious here?
Does this pose a threat to our business?
Would it have been etiquette to contact me first and explain what they were intending to do?
or should I just ignore it?
ps - not training the new Christmas Stock - just the staff

Still completely at a loss for words ...
Perhaps inspiration will hit me while I'm registering mothercares.com, jonlewis.com or woolworth.co.uk

Hi Elaine
Lee didn't get a reply to the email declining £100 as too low and that he did state he would seek a sale elsewhere. Please email Lee to discuss.
I broker some of his domains, he's nowt to do with anything else. Nothing to do with APA and this post has nothing to do with them either.

It is listed on Acorn, have linked to this post.
I have warned Lee previously that his actions will get him into trouble one day in the form of DRS or something far more serious.
At least this time its with one of his own names rather than trying to 'presell' other peoples names - see my previous post on Acorn about that
Cheers,
Rob.

Nothing wrong with registering those at all. All legit names, I am sure there would be a generic site on Mothers that Care... bloke called Jon Lewis , and a Mr Woolworth.
If you tried to use them abusively or infringe on rights , then thats when your 'inspiration' kicks in.
Nice one - just trying to help out to avoid future hassle :tupEat more chips! Dont let salad win! I am rob

There's enough domainers on here to agree a ball park fair price for this domain and hopefully enough goodwill between forum members to give her first refusal.
Elaine; the reality is you really do need that domain and it's worth considerably more than £100 and unless you have trademarked the term (unlikely as it's generic) the owner does have you over a barrel. My advice would be to buy it ASAP, it will only appreciate in value.
Lee, I wouldn't make an enemy of Elaine, she has a lot of friends in this industry.

This has left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't like the idea one little bit of someone trying to make a profit out of a domain name that is very similar to a forum members. Frankly I don't care what the legal implications are here and personally I would give the domain to Elaine for free as a gesture of goodwill.

I disagree.
Suppose somebody buys it for £500, and sticks an affiliate redirect on it.
Suppose the average order value is £40. 7.5% commission of £40 is £3. £500 divide by £3 = 167 orders.
Suppose the conversion rate on type in brand traffic is 10%. That makes 1670 clicks to break even on the £500 outlay. That won't happen in a hurry.
If I was the affiliate manager I would ban the affiliate anyway
£100 is a fair offer. £150 tops. No offence, but it's not a massively recognised brand, so there is no point in forking out and wasting money.
I doubt any future buyer of childrens-rooms.co.uk is unlikely to worry too much either.
