Hi everyone I am only 19, but I have been studying internet marketing for 4 years now. The first 2 years were solid learning where I would get home from school and study straight away from about 4:30pm until midnight!

I have invested 1000's of hours and 1000's of £ in my education but I feel I have learnt SO much and I believe I have a fantastic internet marketing knowledge.

Now I feel my specialty and my strongest point in internet marketing is PPC and Adwords. I spent the bulk of my time studying affiliate marketing via Adwords and I must say I really enjoy putting successful campaigns together, despite not really taking a whole lot of action and getting too many campaigns set up.

I understand how to write successful ads that get a high CTR. I also understand how to put together a very high converting squeeze page to get people to opt-in to an autoresponder or something similar with high conversion rates.

I understand exactly what Google is looking for to give you a high quality score, how the keywords work with all the different match types and how to research and find keywords at a low price that have a good amount of searches each day/month.

I understand all about the relevancy factor with Google and how its impossible to beat Google. The only way to win and make money is by following the rules - blackhat doesn't work. I understand all about how to structure ad groups inside of campaigns and how to structure keywords inside of ad groups.

I understand how to split test different ads to ensure your ad has the highest CTR as possible and I also know the difference between Google's search and content network and how you need to write your ads differently depending on whether you are targeting people on Google search or Google content.

I believe I have all the credentials to go on and do very well managing PPC campaigns and as this is something that I enjoy doing I would love to get involved in doing this as a job on a full-time basis. Now obviously I am only 19 and I have not been to university or 6th form so I do not have a lot of the qualifications that a lot of companies are looking for, however I feel the home study courses and the eBooks that I have learnt from are far superior than the knowledge I would have learnt during higher education after school.

Would anyone like to help point me in the right direction as to how I could perhaps find a job involving PPC based on my experience? My knowledge is fantastic, but I think that the weak points in any application that I make will be the fact that I have not really setup too many campaigns so there is not a lot of proof of how successful I can be with PPC as well as the fact that I do not have any qualifications (only GCSE which I passed every exam with C or higher). Also I only really have experience with Google Adwords (which is the main player) and I believe that many companies will be looking for experience with Yahoo and MSN also as well as possibly some SEO. I do have knowledge in SEO but not any experience in ranking sites using SEO as I believe PPC is much easier and much more preferred as you can get targeted visitors to your site instantly and also very cheaply if you know how to get in Google’s good books.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I am prepared to go on any relevant courses that may be needed or anything, but I just feel that this is what I would like a career in so if I am going to pursue a career in PPC I need to get started taking the action steps towards finding the way to enter that path now.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

P.S. - I live in Guildford and can travel to London so I beleive that there are many companies that I could work for within this area, its just finding the company that is willing to take me on.

    P.P.S - I turn 20 on Saturday.

    I agree!

If you can turn a buck on adwords like you say, then do it for yourself not someone else.

Many sole affiliates turn huge profits.

BTW ... I thought you had to be 18 to open an adwords account? (curious)

    Good Luck!

Yer your right I do actually plan to make money on Adwords for myself, but I am self employed as a CAD Technician and have just been told the work is drying up and that there is pretty much no more work for me.

I am looking for a job at the moment so I can fund my own personal campaigns and a lot of other bills and expenses that I need to pay off. I have a little debt that needs to be resolved quickly.

Would be nice to get involved in PPC now as a job until I can afford to manage my own campaigns without the need for additional income from a J.O.B.

And im not sure about the age for adwords account. I have had one for years (before I was 18), not sure if I lied about my age or if they just let me sign up? Maybe they recently changed the age to 18? Im not sure.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

My salary expectations are £15,000 a year.

That's what I am currently earning as a CAD Technician, although my position doesn't look safe hence the reason I am looking to secure a permanent place elsewhere in a job that I would really enjoy doing.

If you get a job at a decent paid search agency you could get a lot more than that. The main thing you've got going against you I would say is lack of a degree, but you have experience so it should balance out.

    Hi everyone,

Since my initial post I have applied for many jobs involving PPC. I managed to secure an interview with a really successful company however the competition was fierce and the company decided to take on someone with more experience than myself.

I would like to know if anyone knows of any job opportunities that would be available for a junior type role where experience is not required as I seem to be overlooked on each application by applicants with more experience than me.

I am from Guildford, Surrey and am happy to work throughout Surrey or London. I am so desperate to be offered a chance to prove myself so if anyone has a role where I can prove myself or knows of any roles available then please reply or PM.

I know I have the skills to make it in PPC and I am not going to surrender in my search to find a job involving PPC as this is what I enjoy doing and its what I feel I am good at.

Thanks for your help everyone I hope to hear from some of you soon.

    Jamie

Can I strongly suggest that you speak to a recruitment agency in the space, these guys are highly regarded.

Also, I have to say I would give you a shot in a second if we were recruiting, your attitude is excellent. I hope others see past the lack of experience because its often not worth much as most agencies will work in subtly different ways.

    Best of luck

As a possibility, whilst you are waiting for a job, have you thought of offering your services on a freelance basis?

i.e. managing/building ppc campaigns (including keyword building, ad copy etc) for other affiliates on a flat or profit share basis?

Not sure how much this would interest you but could help you get a lot of contacts in the affiliate marketing industry and prove your worth at the same time?

I just wanted to update you all on the situation.

After months and months of failing to give up I have finally been offered a graduate PPC role at a fantastic company close to where I live. I beat off over 100 applicants to get the job, many of the applicants had degrees, but I managed to prove my worth in the interview to get the job.

I shall be starting on Monday and am very excited.

The company have assured me they will train me well and help me progress my career until I am at the top of the company. They have some massive clients such as Skype, Which?, Haymarket, The Guardian etc. so it should be interesting.

I would like to thank everyone for all their support.

    Cheers,

    Jamie
