I would say yes - any expense that helps your business is fine.
I'm in the process of the doing my tax return, and for the first time I have to think about expenses relating to my IM business. I know domain names, hosting etc can be claimed as expenses, but there are a couple of other things that I'm not sure about.
I am a member of an affiliate membership site that provides training materials and tools for affiliate marketing - would my membership fee be classed as a business expense?
Similarly, I'm thinking of joining a paid article distrbution service, which has a monthly fee - could I count that as an expense too?
thanks for any help![]()

I'd agree, any costs you incur that are in some way involved with your business can be counted as expenses. If you weren't in AM would you have paid for these services?
That's good news - thanks for the replies!![]()
Hi
There may be other expenses you can claim.
I have a guide at http://tips.hrbs.biz/running-your-bu...ible-expenses/.
As I posted in another thread, you may wish to read the HMRC helpsheet HS222 at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/helpsheets/hs222.pdf which gives details (page 9) of the new capital allowance rules. It also explains how to calculate your self-employment profits.
If your costs are greater than your income, the trading loss can be offset against your other income and generate a tax refund (depends on your particular circumstances).

Just in case you need another opinion ... I'd say these were allowable too.
